Tyrese Gibson is joining the cast of Morbius, and character details for the entire ensemble have now been revealed. Sony is unsurprisingly moving full steam ahead with their Spider-Man-less spinoff universe after Venom became one of 2018's biggest box office surprises. A sequel to the Tom Hardy hit is in development, but next up will be the Jared Leto starring Morbius.

The film will see Leto take on the role of Marvel Comics anti-hero Dr. Michael Morbius, a scientist who becomes a vampire after trying to cure his rare blood disease. Sony has spent the last few months filling up the supporting cast around Leto, with Adria Arjona being the first to join. Leto and Arjona were later joined by Matt Smith, but the most recent addition came with Jared Harris coming aboard the project. Now, Morbius has added another recognizable name, with details on the entire cast's characters also surfacing.

According to a new report by Variety, Tyrese Gibson has joined the cast of Morbius. Gibson is best known for his role as Roman in the Fast & Furious franchise. Details on his character first appeared to be under wraps, but THR has shared that Gibson will play an FBI agent who's trying to hunt down Leto's living vampire. In addition to sharing Gibson's role, THR also confirmed that Arjona is playing Leto's love interest, Harris is his mentor, and Smith will be Morbius' best friend turned villain Loxias Crown.

Morbius Jared Leto

Since the blood lust from Morbius and Crown will force them to leave a trail of victims as they try to survive, Gibson will likely be in charge of trying to solve the various murders. Meanwhile, Arjona has long been expected to be playing Martine Bancroft, Morbius' fiancée in the comics, so this is just further confirmation that that's the case. Loxias Crown has likewise been linked to Morbius in the past as the main villain, but it's good to know Smith is definitely playing that part. Harris being Morbius' mentor is the newest piece of information, but no character name has been revealed.

All of this information comes as Morbius has already begun filming and Leto has shared a first look at the production. Gibson appears to be the last main addition to the film's cast though, so the only additional casting announcements at this point could be for minor roles. Filming will continue for the next several weeks as Morbius aims to stay on track for a summer 2020 release, and there's been nothing but positive movement on the film so far.
