A new Morbius trailer teaser offers a look at the improved computer-generated imagery for the powers of Jared Leto's titular character. The third installment in Sony's Spider-Man Universe will serve as an origin story for Dr. Michael Morbius, a scientist suffering from a rare blood disease seeking a cure. When he discovers a dangerous cure afflicting him with a form of vampirism and granting him superhuman abilities without any of the traditional weaknesses of a bloodsucker, Morbius must grapple with the moral dilemma of his newfound thirst for blood and the authorities hunting him down.

Leto leads the cast of Morbius as the titular character alongside Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal and Tyrese Gibson. The film will also see Michael Keaton reprise his role of Spider-Man: Homecoming villain Adrian Toomes, aka the Vulture, though how the film will connect to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still unknown following Venom: Let There Be Carnage's building of the bridges between the SSU and MCU. After suffering multiple delays due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Morbius is currently set to hit theaters on January 28, 2022 and Sony is looking to build anticipation for its arrival.

Ahead of the new trailer's debut, Fandango has unveiled a Morbius trailer teaser with Leto discussing the history behind the character and making of the film. The video features plenty of new footage from the next chapter in the SSU, including a better look at the range of Morbius' powers and the improved CGI for their depictions. The Morbius trailer teaser should come as an interesting look at the latest film in the SSU, namely as it highlights Leto's character's powers better than the first proper trailer for the film. Created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, Morbius the Living Vampire wields a number of superhuman abilities outside of typical vampire powers, with the new footage seemingly pointing towards a translation of his night vision, echolocation and transvection abilities. Though the Morbius trailer teaser still doesn't indicate the exact reason for how he is granted the powers or what the conflict will be for him, it does at least paint a more layered approach to the character than seen in the first trailer.

It's also interesting to note that the Morbius trailer teaser hints at a further expansion in the SSU with the yet-to-be-introduced Black Cat. The sometimes enemy, sometimes ally, sometimes love interest of Spider-Man was set to be in a Silver & Black film from Gina Prince-Bythewood pairing her with Silver Sable, though after the project was initially scrapped, it was later revived as a TV series, with The Daily Bugle's mention of the character in the new footage seemingly tying the two together. Only time will tell when Morbius hits theaters on January 28, 2022.
