Jared Leto, star of Morbius, confirms the Sony movie's reshoots have started filming, and teases his comic book research into Marvel's Legion of Monsters. In recent years, Sony has begun building up their own franchise of comic book movies based on Spider-Man related characters that don't actually include the wall-crawler (at least, not yet). In 2018, Venom hit theaters and wound up being a major box office hit, grossing $856.1 million worldwide. Next, Sony is releasing this summer's Morbius, starring Leto as Marvel comics character Morbius the Living Vampire.

In the film, Leto plays Michael Morbius, a scientist with a rare blood disease who becomes a living vampire while trying to cure himself. Leto is joined in the film by Matt Smith as Michael's friend Loxias Crown, Adria Arjona as Michael's fiancée Martine Bancroft, Jared Harris as Michael's mentor and Tyrese Gibson as FBI agent Simon Stroud. The first Morbius movie trailer also dropped the major bombshell that the movie has ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in which Tom Holland plays Peter Parker aka Spider-Man. Though Spidey didn't appear, his antagonist from Spider-Man: Homecoming, Michael Keaton's Vulture, did show up. Now, ahead of Morbius' release date this summer, the movie is currently filming reshoots.

On Instagram, Leto posted a photo of himself reading issue #1 of Marvel's Legion of Monsters comic book series published in 2011. The series features a team of monster-style Marvel characters, including Morbius, Werewolf by Night, Living Mummy and Manphibian. Leto captioned the photo, "Research. Back on set," indicating he was reading Legion of Monsters to prepare for his role in Morbius. See the Instagram post below.

While it's possible that Leto may be teasing the inclusion of other Legion of Monsters characters in the Morbius movie, that seems unlikely, if only because Sony may not hold the film rights to the characters. Sony owns the rights to hundreds of Marvel characters but it's not publicly known exactly which belong to the studio. Even if Sony does own the rights to other Legion of Monsters characters beyond Morbius, it would be a little strange for the film to include any of them in any major capacity. Certainly, Sony could be potentially setting up a future Legion of Monsters movie down the line, just like Morbius seems to be setting up a Sinister Six movie. But as of now, no other Legion of Monsters characters are confirmed for Morbius.

More likely, Leto was reading Legion of Monsters to prep for his role as Michael Morbius and get a better idea of the character's role in the comics. Still, fans may learn more about Morbius and its connections to other Marvel properties thanks to the reshoots themselves. In fact, recent Morbius reshoots set photos confirmed more Spider-Man references are being included in the movie that directly tie into the cliffhanger ending of Spider-Man: Far From Home. Additional information may be revealed during the reshoots, but more likely fans will have to wait and see exactly what Morbius has in store, both in terms of its connections to the MCU and how it sets up any future Sony Marvel movies like Legion of Monsters.
