Dylan O'Brien jokes that Sony’s recent delay to the release of Morbius is due to fact that fans "aren't able to handle it yet.Morbius will see Jared Leto play Dr. Michael Morbius, who, in seeking a cure for his rare blood disorder, ultimately turns himself into a vampire. The film has suffered a number of delays on the road to its release, with Sony’s latest announcement coming as Omicron cases surge worldwide. Morbius’ pushback means the film will now skip its previous release date of January 28, 2022 and will instead release in theatres on April 1.

Morbius takes place in Sony’s newly established Spider-Man Universe that includes the likes of 2018’s Venom and 2021’s highly-successful follow-up, Venom: Let There Be Carnage. While Jon Watts' trilogy of Spider-Man films are not officially included under this umbrella, the upcoming Kraven the Hunter film is another exciting addition to this line-up that stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular character. With Sony seemingly building their universe of comic-book anti-heroes, the release of Morbius is certainly on many fans' radars as one of the more highly-anticipated releases of 2022. A recent trailer only amplified the hype that surrounds Leto’s Marvel debut, teasing a number of thrilling action sequences and some impressive special effects.

Now, O’Brien takes to Twitter to comment on the film’s most recent delay. The Maze Runner franchise star shares he has heard that Morbius is “super good” and that the reason for the series of pushbacks is simply due to the fact that audiences “aren’t able to handle it yet.” The 30-year-old then jokes that by delaying the film, Sony is giving people “more time to evolve as a species” before they see the film. The tweet quickly received a lot of attention, with many fans amused by the actor’s acknowledgment of the upcoming film. Check out O’Brien’s tweet below:

While O’Brien currently has no involvement with the project, the Teen Wolf star is a known film-lover, frequently offering his takes for various projects across his social media accounts. He is not the only Hollywood star to have recently acknowledged Leto’s newest anti-hero, as Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland star previously shared that he would love to see Peter Parker go up against Morbius at some point in the future. Given that the latest Spidey release offered a glimpse at the multiversal potential within the MCU, a crossover with these two characters is absolutely within the realm of possibility.

While O’Brien already has a number of exciting projects coming up in 2022, the actor’s name is one that fans have thrown around for many years when it comes to various castings within the MCU. O’Brien even previously confirmed that he himself had “flirted” with the idea of stepping into the comic-book universe, but currently has no known attachments to any specific projects. Given his willingness to taunt Sony for delaying Morbius yet again, though, it would seem unlikely that the actor shows up in any Spider-Man Universe movies anytime soon.
