A new fan poster for the upcoming Disney+ series Moon Knight mimics one previously seen promoting M. Night Shyamalan’s Split. Shyamalan’s career had seen better days before the release of the 2016 thriller Split. The massively successful film follows Kevin (James McAvoy), who has 24 personalities, one of which, the super-powered Beast, seeks to dominate all the others. Thought to be a standalone, Split’s ending reveals the film be part of Shyamalan's Unbreakable (2000) universe. 

In retrospect, Split serves as an origin story for the supervillain, The Horde, who meets up with fellow villain Mr. Glass (Samuel L. Jackson) and superhero David Dunn (Bruce Willis) in the follow-up, Glass (2019). While the latter was far from critically acclaimed, Split is still considered to be one of Shyamalan’s best films thanks in large part to McAvoy’s multi-faceted performance. That being said, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is gearing up to introduce another character sporting multiple personalities in Moon Knight.

Famed artist Bosslogic recently shared a Moon Knight fan poster on Instagram reminiscent of Shyamalan’s Split. Instead of shadows branching off of Kevin depicting the Beast and a few other personalities, this new motion piece sees Wolverine, Deadpool, the Punisher, and Spider-Man in the shadows of Marc Spector. The MCU Phase 4's ongoing multiverse concept negates continuity issues. Following Disney/Marvel Studios’ acquisition of Fox, fans are anticipating the implementation of the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and (previously) Netflix’s street-level heroes. A third film starring Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool has already been confirmed and Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock is rumored to appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which has led many to spectacle if, when, where characters like John Bernthal’s Punisher return—one of those projects being Moon Knight. The series is expected to premiere next year, consist of six episodes, and will star Oscar Isaac as its titular vigilante.

Thanks to gadgets like Moonrangs, Marvel’s Moon Knight has drawn many comparisons to DC’s Batman over the years. However, the characters only appear similar. In the comics, Spector’s origin story sees him encounter the Egyptian moon god Khonshu during a near-death experience. Khonshu offers Spector a second chance at life if he agrees to a symbiotic partnership—which grants him powers based on the lunar cycle. Once he becomes Moon Knight, Spector creates multiple secret identities and develops a dissociative identity disorder. Isaac has teased the series will be a wild one and, given the psychological aspect of its anti-hero, could be as unpredictable as Split. Only one thing seems certain: Hugh Jackman will not star as Wolverine.
