Warning! SPOILERS ahead for Moon Knight.

A new behind-the-scenes photo from Moon Knight reveals a glimpse at Taweret's massive sculpted head. Moon Knight is the latest Marvel series streaming on Disney+ and it stars Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke. The series chronicles the complex, interconnected relationships between mercenary Marc Spector, museum gift shop employee Steven Grant, and the Egyptian god Khonshu as they crusade to stop Hawke's Arthur Harrow from resurrecting the Egyptian goddess, Ammit.

In Moon Knight's fourth episode, audiences meet Taweret, the Egyptian goddess of fertility and rejuvenation. The history of Taweret dates back to around 3000 BC, and she is highly revered as being the protector of both women and families. The Egyptian goddess is often portrayed with a hippopotamus head, arms and paws of a lion, and legs and tail of a crocodile. And although Taweret is ingrained in Egyptian culture, this is the character's first appearance in the MCU.

In a post to Instagram, actress Antonia Salib shares a new behind-the-scenes photo from Moon Knight, revealing a glimpse at Taweret's massively sculpted head. Salib, the voice actor for Taweret, is seen standing next to the giant sculpted head with a caption stating how much fun it has been to portray the Egyptian goddess. The actress also pays homage to the work done by the VFX team and costume department working on the series. Check out the image and full post below:

In Moon Knight's episode 4 shocking twist, Marc finds himself a patient in mental institution where Harrow is his psychiatrist. Things get even weirder when Marc reunites with Steven and they both come face-to-hippo-face with Taweret. It's revealed the goddess intends to lead them on a voyage to A'aru, the Field of Reeds, but the duo convince her they need to return to the living world. To create Taweret, Moon Knight's digital artists obviously turned to CGI, but when it came to the on set performance, Salib had a full scale replica of Taweret's massive hippo head. Marvel has employed similar techniques for previous CGI characters, like Hulk and Korg, and it's cool to see the detail that's gone into crafting Taweret's head. Not to mention, being able to play Taweret on set was surely a cool experience for Salib and likely enhanced her and her co-star's performances.

Marvel's Moon Knight has been an intense psychological thrill ride from the opening sequence, weaving twists and turns in the least expected places. As soon as audiences believe they grasp the storyline, a new twist in the plot sends them down another rabbit hole. The addition of Taweret adds another exciting layer to the story. As she is the goddess of rejuvenation, Marc will likely count on her in some capacity in his mission to stop Harrow. How Taweret ultimately impacts the storyline is yet to be revealed, but viewers can stay tuned as Moon Knight's final episode airs on May 4, 2022.
