Oscar Isaac has reportedly been cast as the lead for Marvel's upcoming Disney+ series Moon Knight. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is once again attempting to make the transition to television through a slew of shows on Disney+, all of which will have ties to the movies. The first batch of shows center on pre-established MCU characters like Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), but Marvel boss Kevin Feige announced at D23 last year that there will also be three projects that'll introduce new characters to the franchise.

Moon Knight, just like She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel, will center on one of those new characters. Ever since the shows were announced, fans have been eagerly speculating about who will be cast in the lead roles, particularly since they're all expected to appear in the films. Tatiana Maslany was first announced to be She-Hulk's lead (though Maslany recently sidestepped those rumors), while newcomer Iman Vellani will play Ms. Marvel. Following those two, all that was left was Moon Knight's leading man.

Now Deadline has reported that Oscar Isaac is in negotiations to star in Moon Knight as Marc Spector, a mercenary with numerous alter egos who later becomes a conduit for the Egyptian god Khonsu. Marvel had no comment on Isaac's casting. A production start date hasn't been set, as the studio is still looking for a director. Jeremy Slater (The Umbrella Academy) is still attached as head writer.

Isaac is just coming off a run as Poe Dameron in Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy; his jump to the MCU means Isaac now has had a hand in two of the biggest ongoing franchises today. Beyond that, audiences will see him next in Denis Villeneuve's Dune, which was recently delayed from December 2020 to October 2021. In being cast as the MCU's Marc Spector, Isaac beats out fan favorite Oliver Jackson-Cohen (The Invisible Man), who many thought fit the "Zac Efron type" Marvel was reportedly looking for.

Nevertheless, Isaac's casting will likely be met with excitement from fans, particularly those who felt his last foray into the superhero genre (2016's X-Men: Apocalypse) missed the mark. Isaac is a talented actor who will fit perfectly into the MCU, and it'll be exciting to see how his role evolves. Currently, Moon Knight is only set for his Disney+ show, but more projects are sure to follow. As to when Moon Knight could begin production, that's less clear. There were once reports it would start in November, but it's likely been delayed. However, now that the show has found its leading man, expect more progress to be made soon.
