Moon Knight is one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most popular TV shows so far, and it’s also one that hasn’t been announced to return in the rest of the Multiverse Saga, but the series must get a second season mostly due to its Jake Lockley tease. As the MCU continues to expand, it’s now also branching out to TV/streaming with a long list of TV shows that are either continuing the stories of already-established characters or introducing new ones. The MCU has already seen a bit of everything in its TV shows, and one of its darkest and most successful ones so far is Moon Knight.

Moon Knight introduced the audience to Marc Spector (Oscar Isaac), a mercenary and avatar of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu, turning him into Moon Knight. Marc has dissociative identity disorder, so throughout Moon Knight, viewers met some of his alters, as were British gift-ship employee Steven Grant and Jake Lockley. The latter made his debut in the post-credits scene of Moon Knight’s finale, though his presence was teased throughout the whole season, and he’s the most ruthless and dangerous alter of Marc, and he’s still serving as Khonshu’s avatar – and it’s thanks to him that Moon Knight should get a second season.

The way Moon Knight represented Marc’s different alters was by having him go through blackouts, which symbolized the change between them. Steven and Marc were the main characters throughout Moon Knight, even arguing between them sometimes as they had very different ideas and ways to handle their enemies, but there were moments where they went through blackouts and none of them took over. Marc and Steven realized that horrible things happened during those blackouts, and it was later revealed that the one taking control during those moments was Jake Lockley. Jake even took over during the final battle against Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke) and his people, and he was the one who killed Harrow in the post-credits scene.

The audience didn’t get to know Jake Lockley, as Moon Knight only teased how dangerous and merciless he is and revealed that he speaks Spanish, but that’s pretty much all that’s known about him. Because of this, it would be weird if Marvel didn’t renew Moon Knight for a second season as it would leave the audience with a major cliffhanger and a bunch of unanswered questions, and while Marc and Jake could return in another movie or TV show, it’s unlikely that would give enough space for Jake’s story and character to be properly introduced and developed.

As mentioned above, Marc and Steven had very different ideas and ways to act when in danger, which inevitably led to conflict between them when they became aware of each other. While Marc has no problem fighting his enemies and has a lot of repressed anger as a result of trauma, Steven is shy, anxious, jumpy, and is constantly pushed around by everyone around him, and when it came to defending himself, Marc always had to come out. Jake Lockley, on the other hand, is completely different, as he’s hyper-agressive and rageful, which is why Khonshu chose him as his new avatar. This would inevitably take Moon Knight season 2 into a much darker and more violent direction, and with Jake now taking over more often, Marvel would have to show how he fights and confronts his enemies instead of hiding all of it in blackouts. Moon Knight has a lot of questions and mysteries to answer and solve, and it needs a second season thanks to the introduction of the dangerous Jake Lockley.
