Director Mohamed Diab has revealed his hopes for Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight hero in the MCU. The 6-episode Disney+ series will follow Isaac as both former CIA agent Marc Spector and museum worker Steven Grant, who navigates life with his dissociative identity disorder. A confrontation with Egyptian god Khonshu grants him the powers needed to become the vigilante Moon Knight, a hero whose tale is said to be one of Marvel's darkest stories yet.

With the premiere of the series just weeks away, not much information about the plot has been revealed. However, new teasers and exclusive photos continue to help the story unfold, all of which shows a unique aspect about this Marvel series. Each one of their Disney+ entities thus far have tied into the MCU, whether it be WandaVision setting up Wanda Maximoff's (Elizabeth Olsen) Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness appearance or Loki explaining what happened once Loki disappeared with the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame. This is where Moon Knight differs, as it appears to have no tie-ins to the MCU. This is something that drew Isaac further into the project, though it doesn't leave out the possibility that the series could be tied into the larger MCU with time.

Now, Diab has shared with SFX (via GamesRadar+) about his hopes for Isaac's Moon Knight to eventually make his MCU debut. The director said "I dream and wish for a film," but acknowledges that this isn't how it usually works, and that Moon Knight won't necessarily "graduate" into a MCU film. The comic book hero is one of Marvel's first to debut in a Disney+ series rather than a film, which makes his progression to the MCU even more challenging. However, with the hype already building for Moon Knight and Isaac's stellar performance, Diab is confident that the hero won't have a problem jumping into the MCU. See the full quote on his hopes below:

But I can tell you for a fact, I can see [Moon Knight] in the next 10 years, not just the next film. He’s a very interesting character. He’s probably the most interesting character for any actor to play. Oscar is doing a great job. People already like him even from the trailer. I think the show’s going to resonate with people, so I see him staying for a long time.

The positive reception thus far by critics for Isaac's performance contributes greatly to Diab's hopes for a Moon Knight appearance in the MCU, though the greater audience has yet to see it for themselves. With Ethan Hawke and May Calamawy working alongside Isaac in this series, viewers are bound to be in for an adventure that will prove Diab's words to be true about the epic nature of Moon Knight's hero. The exploration of Marc Spector and Steven Grant alongside the action of Moon Knight without the pressure of MCU tie-ins will likely allow for a story that captures the hearts of the audience and calls for more of the hero in Marvel's greater future.

A leap into the MCU wouldn't be too far out of Isaac's filmography, as the Star Wars actor is familiar with working within franchises. Isaac has still kept ties with his Star Wars character Poe Dameron, just 2 years after the conclusion of his trilogy. He would then have experience working within a franchise similar to the MCU, something that would add another convincing layer to the character during a translation from the TV screen to the movie screen. The first step, however, is still to see what the audience thinks of Isaac's hero in Moon Knight.  It won't be much longer for viewers to find out with the premiere of the series now less than two weeks away, on March 30.
