Warning! Spoilers ahead for Moon Knight #12!

In the latest issue of Marvel Comics' Moon Knight, Marc Spector reveals a secret superpower that effectively makes him a horrifying one-man army. Engaging in a final showdown with his new rival Zodiac, Moon Knight had no choice but to recommit himself to Khonshu, the Egyptian moon god who made Marc his avatar. As such, Spector gets an all-new power that massively elevates his power levels.

In previous issues of Jed MacKay and Allesandro Cappuccio's Moon Knight, Marc Spector opened the Midnight Mission in New York, a new base of operations where the travelers of the night could seek help from Mr. Knight (which often resulted in Moon Knight going out and eliminating the reported threats). However, this was all done without any sort of connection with Khonshu who's been imprisoned on Asgard ever since he stole the powers of Earth's Mightiest Heroes and took over New York. That was when Spector turned on his god, rejecting him and going his own way. However, the threat Zodiac poses to Moon Knight and those he cares for is quite high, so much so that Moon Knight was forced to pray to Khonshu and ask him for help.

Now, the new Moon Knight #12 sees Marc traveling through Khonshu's realm which is effectively a version of Black Panther's ancestral plane. Containing the undead souls of the moon god's past avatars, Moon Knight arrives just in time to find the Midnight Mission under siege by Zodiac and his sizable forces. However, it's revealed that Moon Knight brought the Zombie Moon Knights with him, unleashing them to help even the odds (while also giving Spector his own army of horrifying allies).

While this could just be a one-time thing, it would be very impressive to see Marc Spector using his undead army in the future. It's also proof that Moon Knight has so much untapped power due to his estrangement from Khonshu. That being said, becoming Khonshu's devoted servant comes with steep costs. Moon Knight already owes the moon god after traveling through his realm, and it's likely that all the power Khonshu could offer Marc wouldn't be worth losing himself in the process, becoming far darker as an avatar of justice than he wants to be.

At any rate, unleashing a horde of Zombie Moon Knights to win the day is still pretty awesome, even if does mean Khonshu will likely be returning to complicate Marc's life once more. At this point, Khonshu being freed from his Asgardian prison in the near future seems like good odds. Combined with the return of Spector's alter Steven Grant at the issue's end, it's clear that MacKay and Cappuccio's Moon Knight run is only getting started.
