Ross Marquand, most known for his role of Aaron on The Walking Dead, has expressed interest in playing Moon Knight in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Marquand seems to have a forte for taking out zombies, he also recently played Red Skull in Avengers: Infinity War. He may already have one role in the MCU, but many actors often play one superhero role and then come back for a second.
The situation may be a little different for Marquand since his role in the MCU is from the most recent film. That being said, Marquand as Moon Knight should not be completely ruled out as a possibility. Being introduced in 1975, Moon Knight and his alter ego Marc Sceptor are no stranger to comic book fans. Solving crimes with his expert detective skills and his proficiency in martial arts makes him an ideal candidate for a future hero. Without any cinematic portrayal of Moon Knight yet to be seen, longtime fans are probably itching to see the silver and black superhero up on the big screen.
When talking with AiPT!, it was apparent that Marquand is passionate about Moon Knight and comics in general. Being a long-time fan of comic books, Marquand was quick with an answer when asked which character he would like to portray in the MCU, besides Red Skull. After admitting that Moon Knight does share some similarities with DC's Batman, Marquand still seemed excited about playing Moon Knight in a future Marvel flick. Moon Knight's character has been developed over the years, which to Marquand has made him a unique character, as he explained:
"Going into the dissociative identity disorder, really calling in to question if everything happening is all in his head, is he actually a vigilante killer or did he die in Egypt? It brings up a slew of questions, and that to me has never really been delved into in any comic book character before."
Feige has already confirmed that Marvel has plans for Moon Knight and with Marquand's obvious interest, they may not need to search for an actor to take on the role. Even though Marquand was cast as Red Skull after Hugo Weaving decided to not return to the role, Marquand could easily play a hero as effectively as he played a villain. Many people probably did not even know that Red Skull was recast which goes to show how skilled Marquand is with impressions.
Marvel may be in need of new heroes after the events of Infinity War and Moon Knight seems to be an obvious choice. With Feige and Marquand both interested in the character, seeing Moon Knight in the MCU could come sooner rather than later. Until official casting information is announced for Moon Knight in the MCU, though, fans will just have to continue mourning Infinity War's fallen heroes.
