Marvel Studios has plans for Moon Knight in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In building the MCU, Marvel's used some of their more popular characters, but have also turned some of their more obscure properties into household names. Thanks to the abundance of characters they have at their disposal (and the possibility of the X-Men and Fantastic Four being available soon), the studio's decision to hone in on certain characters means other fan favorite ones have not yet been brought to the screen.
One of the most requested characters to debut is Marc Spector aka Moon Knight. Whether it has been rumors of him heading to Netflix or possible seeds planted in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, fans have been left waiting without any real news on what his future is.
So, when Screen Rant had the chance to talk to Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige as part of the Avengers: Infinity War press junket, one of the topics we had to ask him about was Moon Knight's potential for the MCU. What exactly their plans are for the hero with multiple personalities is still a secret, but he is definitely in the (literal) cards.
Yes. Does that mean five years from now, 10 years from now, 15 years from now? There are stacks of character cards that we have in our, in our development offices, which we look at. Which we pull for him, which we discussed.
Considering how long fans have been asking for Moon Knight to appear, the sooner he can make it to the screen the better. There's been no reports of Moon Knight being an actively developed project for the studio though. While fans understandably are eager to see the character brought to life, his debut could still be a few years away at this point - unlike the status of fellow fan-favorite character Nova. That could change however if he makes an appearance in another movie first before potentially getting a franchise all his own.
Marc Spector is one of Marvel's most fascinating and complicated heroes. Spector is a former military man who later uses his skills to be a mercenary. His life is forever changed when a mission takes him to Egypt where the Egyptian moon god Khonshu grants him a second chance at life following a deadly fight. Spector's new life takes him on other-worldly missions, some of which can't be trusted thanks to his multiple personalities. Regardless of what name he goes by, Spector is an excellent fighter and marksman and isn't afraid to demonstrate his skills.
With Feige stating Marvel Studios' interest in Moon Knight, it can effectively rule out him ever making it to the Netflix corner of the universe. While he would undoubtedly be a great fit alongside those characters and be the benefit of longer-form character-focused storytelling, the possibilities of Moon Knight's world being explored on the big screen is an exciting prospect.
