Warning: SPOILERS for Avengers Assemble Alpha #1After years of fans pressuring both Marvel and DC, Moon Knight is finally fighting Batman in comics - but the battle is, unfortunately, not exactly what fans wanted. Both characters are frequently compared to one another by fans, causing the Marvel and DC communities to often wonder the outcome of a potential fight between the Dark Knight and the Fist of Khonshu. Avengers Assemble: Alpha #1 reveals precisely what a fight between Batman and Moon Knight would entail...but these characters are not Marc Spector or Bruce Wayne at all.
Both Moon Knight and Batman are secretly millionaires who use their fortunes to fund their crime-fighting ways (though Moon Knight's alias, Steven Grant, has an asterisk; he is one of four separate personalities in Marc Spector's body). They also have no powers apart from their gadgets (though, in the case of Marc again, he occasionally channels the abilities of Khonshu), and are also known for their brooding, lonely lifestyles. Their backstories are rooted in tragedy and both suffer from extreme mental health issues (implicitly in Bruce's case and explicitly when it comes to Moon Knight). It is no wonder, then, that the Marvel and DC fandom often wonder the result fo of a potential fight between the two.
In Avengers Assemble: Alpha #1, by Jason Aaron, Bryan Hitch, Andrew Currie & Alex Sinclair, three groups of Avengers meet after nearly an entire year of buildup: the Avengers of the 616 Universe, the Multiversal Avengers from the Avengers Forever book, and the Prehistoric Avengers from Earth's distant past. Almost immediately, the groups attack each other after a misunderstanding, and Nighthawk attacks Moon Knight - but this caveman chosen by Khonshu is far from the plotting and intelligent Marc Spector of the present day. As for Nighthawk, this is essentially Marvel's Batman, but his opponent is far from the man fans wanted him to fight.
This Isn't The Moon Knight vs Batman Battle Fans Wanted To See
It is entirely appropriate for Khonshu to choose a caveman to become his next avatar, but it does not necessarily represent Moon Knight as the fans know him today. Moon Knight fans adore him not in spite of his multiple personalities, but because of them; the combination of Steven Grant, Jake Lockley, Marc Spector and Mr. Knight is what makes the hero. This caveman is a singular entity, and not nearly as interesting (and Nighthawk says as much during his quick bout).
Unfortunately, it looks like the real Bruce Wayne will never fight Marc Spector in this crossover. Short of a revival of the Marvel vs DC series from the 90s, it's highly unlikely Bruce will fight Marc in the current era. Moon Knight and Batman are fierce fighters, but while Nighthawk is a worthy successor, this caveman version of the Fist of Khonshu leaves much to be desired.
