Thanks to the upcoming Moon Knight series starring Oscar Isacc, a hilarious panel from Marvel Comics has only gotten more popular in the last few years which sees the vigilante calling the vampire Dracula, "a big f***ing nerd". However, was there an actual scene from Marvel Comics where Dracula owes Moon Knight money? While the truth is that the panel was edited as opposed to a canonical interaction, the origins and birth of the Meme Moon Knight is actually as interesting as it is hilarious.

In Marvel Comics, Moon Knight's real name is Marc Spector, a man chosen by the Egyptian moon god Khonshu to be its avatar. Using his wealth and resources, Spector became the Moon Knight, seeking to deliver brutal justice on the streets while also living with dissociative identity disorder (DID), having two other identities with their own unique personalities. While he's certainly faced all kinds of dark forces and monsters such as Werewolf by Night during his dynamic career as a hero, Dracula isn't actually one of his primary foes. Furthermore, the two have barely interacted at all in the Marvel Universe though that didn't stop one fan from creating the hilarious internet rivalry between the two all the same.

Having become immensely popular, a comic meme was created in recent years that sees Moon Knight entering a castle, announcing that he knew Dracula was inside and calling him "a big f***ing nerd", while also demanding money that he was apparently owed. This creative and hilarious edit also spawned other Moon Knight memes such as Moon Knight harassing the Avengers in his search for Dracula to get his money back. However, the original panel and text comes from Solo Avengers #3 from Roger Stern and Bob Hall, which saw Moon Knight being tested for recruitment by the nocturnal team of heroes known as the Night Shift.

Moon-Knight-Comparison-Meme-Real-Dracula

While Moon Knight's beef with Dracula is not a part of the official Marvel canon, it ended up creating a whole new persona online that was much more random and hilarious than the actual Marc Spector. It's actually grown enough that the Moon Knight seen in these various memes could be considered to be his own separate hero at this point, having been birthed by the internet itself. A fun headcanon could be that Meme Moon Knight is just an additional personality for Spector that's rarely seen in the comics, whose sole goal is to get his money back from the vampire lord.

In any case, whoever started this initial meme probably had no idea how big it would become, motivating others to create their own fan-edits of the character as well. Case in point: there are rumors that Dracula himself could be in Marvel's Moon Knight series on Disney+, despite this non-canon meme being the biggest interaction they've ever had. While it's unknown who the original creator was, hopefully, they're proud of what they've accomplished.
