Capcom just announced the details of the fourth free update for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, and it features plenty of new monsters, armor, and events. After nearly a two month delay, the update will be available for download to all players who own the Iceborne expansion on July 9th. The expansion originally introduced a variety of extra story content, quests, monsters, and items to the Monster Hunter World title.

Monster Hunter World originally release at the start of 2018 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One to exceptionally high ratings and fan reviews. Following its initial success, Capcom announced the games' first expansion, Iceborne. This expansion introduced new areas to Monster Hunter World and an impressive line up of new (and old) monsters, armor sets, weapons, and more.

Many players are likely excited to have two new monsters join Iceborne in its fourth update: Alatreon and Frostfang Barioth. Alatreon made its original debut in Monster Hunter Tri as the game's final boss. This giant monster's main ability is changing its element type between Fire Active, Dragon Active, and Ice Active at any point during combat. Players will need to strategize how to overcome Alatreon's constantly rotating elemental form. However, Hunters need to be especially careful of the monster's Escaton Judgement move, a thunderous shockwave which is released during an elemental shift. Frostfang Barioth is a more powerful version of the common Barioth and can be hunted through an event quest. It's strengthened ice breath now has the ability to freeze the ground, forcing players to be extra careful when maneuvering attacks to avoid frostbind status.

Both of these new Monster Hunter World: Iceborne monsters come with a new set of armor, each featuring its own unique designs and Set Bonus Skills. Alatreon's skill is called Alatreon Divinity. This skill increases a weapon's elemental power as the player's armor elemental resistance increases. Frostfang Barioth's Set Bonus Skill, Punishing Draw, activates when just one part is equipped and gives draw attacks stun properties. If three pieces of the set are worn, Slugger Secret is activated which allows some weapons to stun enemies even when they couldn't before. Palicoes have also received their own armor sets for both of these monsters.

This update for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne also includes the upcoming Astera/Seliana seasonal event, Sizzling Spice Fest. Gathering Hubs will be completely redecorated to reflect a more festive, carnival-type feel, and Hunters will have a bunch of new food types to try. As is the case with each seasonal festival, there are new outfits to unlock, like the Handler which comes in two variants. There is also a new outfit for Palicoes themed after Pukei-Pukei. Poogie even gets a costume that makes it look like a Kulu-Ya-Ku egg. The event also includes new armor like a Faux Kelbi and Aptonoth head, mug shaped dual blades, rabbit ears, and layered armor which becomes the player's default clothing when they wear it.

This update contains a lot of additional system features, new guild cards, new squad cards, and much more. Capcom has also announced that a fifth major title update will become available in the fall and feature an unknown returning monster. The fourth update for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne will become available to download on July 9th, so keep an eye out for all the exciting content, and happy hunting.
