Today's Nintendo Direct showcase unveiled a brand-new expansion for Monster Hunter Rise titled Sunbreak. Capcom's action role-playing game tasks players with slaying or capturing monsters across a large interconnected map. Released in March 2021, Monster Hunter Rise was highly praised for its fast movement and large assortment of monsters.

At launch, Monster Hunter Rise featured an abundance of unique creatures for players to track down and engage in battle. The game's progression demands that players start out hunting smaller and less dangerous monsters when they first begin the game. By taking down these smaller monsters, more powerful weapons and armor can then be crafted. This lets players slowly work their way towards battling enormous and deadly monsters by the game's end. Updates have also served to add even more foes to the game, with Monster Hunter Rise Version 3.0 introducing two two monsters to the mix.

During today's Nintendo Direct, Nintendo of America revealed an upcoming expansion to Monster Hunter Rise, called Sunbreak, which will launch in Summer 2o21. While no actual gameplay is shown, the cinematic trailer does show off a fascinating new environment and monster. The announcement shows off the eerie ruins of a castle, which are lit by a massive orange moon. An enormous dark dragon is then shown, taking off into the sky to conclude the reveal. Information from Nintendo confirms that Sunbreak will be a paid expansion pack which adds new monsters, locations and stories to the already enormous title.

The huge critical success of Monster Hunter Rise led to massive financial success for Capcom in the first quarter of 2021. The title managed to build upon the accomplishments of 2018's Monster Hunter World, improving on combat and gameplay while also adding brand-new monsters for players to hunt down and battle. Numerous pieces of post-launch content have been released, so it should come as no surprise that a large paid expansion is now being added to the experience.

While little has really been shown of Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, the expansion appears to be adding more of what the franchise's fans love. Players will be given an intriguing new setting to explore, and an extremely intimidating dragon monster to face in battle. While the expansion is still one year away, Monster Hunter fans can look forward to another epic hunt.
