The 2.0 update for Monster Hunter Rise is here and it's adding a lot of new content to the game, including five new monsters. One of the best new features added in the update has nothing to do with monsters, but the hunters themselves, as the player can soon change the appearance of their armor pieces.

In the Monster Hunter series, the main character doesn't gain experience points or levels. Instead, the hunter's stats and special abilities are determined by their armor. The only way to forge armor is to kill monsters and use their body parts as materials. A hunter's gear is vitally important, as it's directly linked to their strength and survivability. In the older Monster Hunter games, this meant the player could be stuck with an ugly suit of armor if they wanted to remain strong. The biggest victims of this were the Nintendo outfits in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and Monster Hunter Generations, as they were all weak compared to the regular gear. This meant that dressing up like Link or Samus meant taking a major hit to strength.

The Monster Hunter series gradually started letting players alter the appearance of their armor. In Monster Hunter Rise, there are items called layered armor, which allow the player to change the appearance of pieces of gear. The only problem is that there are only a few pieces of layered armor in the base game and they're mostly tied to the paid DLC. That's all about to change, thanks to the latest update for the game.

Layered Armor In Monster Hunter Rise Can Finally Be Made

Monster Hunter Rise Wizard Armor

The 2.0 update for Monster Hunter Rise allows the player to forge layered armor for the first time. This will let them change the appearance of their armor to that of any other in the game. Players can now deck out their hunter in the coolest or most outlandish armor they can find, without compromising their combat abilities.

The idea of changing the appearance of gear appears in lots of MMOs, as well as a few regular titles, like Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Destiny 2. The Monster Hunter series is all about slaying enemies with cool-looking weapons, but the armor appearance has always been restricted in some way. Monster Hunter Rise is an incredible game for a number of reasons and the ability to deck out hunters in awesome-looking gear at any time is going to make it even better. The Monster Hunter Rise 2.0 update is available now.
