Director Paul W.S Anderson shared a clip from his new film Monster Hunterrevealing one of the series' most iconic creatures - the Rathalos. The movie is loosely based on the popular video game series of the same name made by Capcom. The games are basically a series of boss fights, having the player character engage with a barrage of monsters that continue to get bigger and stronger as the game progresses. The movie stars Milla Jovovich, Tony Jaa, and Ron Perlman. The film's basic plot has Jovovich and others in her military squad being sent through a portal, landing in a world filled with monsters.

During the Monster Hunter panel at NYCC, Anderson spoke about his career and dropped a surprise clip for Monster Hunter. In it, we see Jovovich and her team hastily flying through some kind of desert. From above, some gigantic creature lands on the plane and begins tearing it apart. It hits the ground - letting out a big roar - and we get our first look at a Rathalos on film.

Monster Hunter fans most likely noticed that this monster is significantly too big to be a normal Rathalos. It is closer in resemblance to a Greater Rathalos, a bigger version of the creature you see in the games. Anderson confirmed this, stating the following:

We joked that we kind of fed [the Rathalos] GMOs. It's a bigger version of the Rathalos than you would see in the games. The reason for that is that it's associated with this ancient civilization, which is a theme that runs through several of the games. There's a kind of secret associated with this Greater Rathalos.
