Netflix has released its official trailer for the upcoming K-Drama Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area. Following the finale and massive success of La Casa de Papel, the streaming service announced the Korean remake of the popular action-thriller series last year. Directed by Kim Hong-sun, the crime drama series will follow Oldboy star Yoo Ji-tae as the Professor, as he plans to pull off the biggest heist in the Korean Peninsula.

The Korean remake will follow a similar narrative as the Spanish heist series, establishing an analogous plot and maintaining the original characters. Unlike La Casa de Papel, Money Heist: Korea will debut 12 episodes as opposed to the 15 episodes of the original in season 1. The stellar casting for Money Heist: Korea also includes Burning star Jun Jong-seo as Tokyo, Squid Game star Park Hae-soo as Berlin, and renowned K-drama actor Lee Won-jong as Moscow.

The Swoon has revealed the official trailer for Netflix’s Money: Heist Korea, unveiling the first look of Kim Yunjin as Seo Woo-jin, the inspector of the Task Force Team, teasing a probable hostage crisis. The trailer also reveals the Professor as he is shown plotting the biggest heist in Korea and seen approaching a wall of masks. The notorious Salvador Dalí mask is in the center, surrounded by disguises that bear resemblance to traditional Korean Hahoe masks, which are typically used in religious ceremonies. It's not clear which mask the Professor chooses, as the shot cuts away just after he reaches out. The trailer concludes by introducing the cast and characters of the upcoming K-drama. Over time, many series have been remade for other countries, such as the Greek adaptation of Modern Family or the Hollywood remake of the K-Drama The Good Doctor. Although the Korean Money Heist remake will follow the same storyline and characters as the Spanish drama, it appears that there will be twists and minor changes to modify the story to embody Korean culture and language. This has now become more apparent as the trailer teases a possible different take on the masks from the original series. With the satirized title referring to the Joint Security Area in the DMZ between North and South Korea, many fans are curious as to whether the heist will take place near the border.

In many cases, remakes fail to outdo the predecessor or live up to the expectations of the audience. However, fans are eagerly anticipating the arrival of the Spanish crime drama remake due to the amazing casting choices and a fresh take on the biggest series on Netflix. Currently, the official date for the release of Money Heist: Korea has yet to be revealed but the series is expected to premiere sometime this year.
