The Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing, or M.O.D.O.K, arrives in Marvel Snap as a 5 Energy cost 8 Power card that automatically discards a player's entire hand On Reveal, leading to powerful combinations when paired with other characters that fit that archetype. Discard decks have always had a niche in Marvel Snap, relying on minimal abilities through cards that typically only remove one or two cards at most from the hand at any given time. However, the significant risk that MODOK takes to use encourages players to fully invest in this strategy by building a deck that best compliments total commitment to a large number of discards.

Since MODOK does not arrive in Marvel Snap until February 2023 as of this time of writing, there are no guarantees that their ability or Energy/Power value will remain consistent. However, this should not stop players from theorizing about the decks MODOK would work best in. According to content creator Specimen, the most potent decks MODOK would likely function in revolve around either choosing Hela or Apocalypse in Marvel Snap as an anchor. Hela, a 6 Energy 6 Power card, plays all cards the opponent has discarded to random Locations On Reveal, while the 6 Energy 8 Power Apocalypse gains +4 Power each time it's discarded before returning to the hand.

MODOK - Apocalypse Deck Build

Marvel Snap MODOK Apocalypse Deck Build With Each Card Energy and Power Displayed

Discard decks revolve around their anchor more than many other archetypes, and an Apocalypse deck snowballs in effectiveness the sooner players can discard the first mutant from their hand. While players may wish to simply discard whenever possible, cards like the 2 Energy 0 Power Morbius gains +2 Power in the hand, deck, or at a Location in Marvel Snap for every card discarded by the player should be played soon to take advantage of that effect. Since MODOK discards every card in hand, players can stack Morbius' Power gain quickly near the end of the game. For more info on an Apocalypse Deck Build, players can check out the below video from the Youtube channel Specimen.

To extend the idea of this combination even further, MODOK has the opportunity to discard cards drawn late, like the 2 Energy 3 Power Swarm or the 6 Energy 10 Power Helicarrier. The former character makes two copies of itself that cost 0 Energy to play when discarded, while the latter adds three random cards to the player's hand when it gets discarded. Through MODOK, both of these characters have the potential to fill the player's hand with a clutch card in Marvel Snap for the final round, especially if they were struggling earlier to build Apocalypse's Power through other abilities from Lady Sif, Moon Knight, or Hell Cow.

MODOK - Hela Deck Build

Marvel Snap MODOK Hela Deck Build 2 with Energy and Power Values Displayed

While the previous deck build was far more traditional in its approach to discards, a collection that combines MODOK and Hela presents far more of a challenge to pull off. Although there are incredibly high Power value cards in this build, such as The Infinaut in Marvel Snap and Giganto, the key to this strategy relies entirely on either Hela or Ghost Rider. The 4 Energy 3 Power Ghost Rider returns one discarded card to its Location On Reveal, which automatically bypasses certain restrictions tied to Giganto or The Infinaut's effects.

Players may struggle to place cards early in this deck since only Blade and Morbius have low amounts of Energy. Despite the risks of using a deck with only high Energy cards, the 2 Energy 2 Power Invisible Woman is the glue that holds this plan together. Her ability does not reveal cards at their Location until the end of the game, essentially used in tandem with MODOK to stall the hand discard until after Hela has been played last, with the Ongoing effect in Marvel Snap. The devastating synergy that ensues afterward could see MODOK wipe out the whole hand, increasing Morbius' Power while leading to Hela calling back every single card to win a game in one move.
