Historically, the Maschinenpistole 5 (MP5) has been a very popular weapon in the Call of Duty franchise, and it is no different in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The MP5 is the most popular submachine gun in the game, nearly as popular as the M4A1, and it's a weapon where players can really take advantage of Modern Warfare's extensive customization.

Like most SMGs, the MP5 should be primarily used for close to mid range battles. It's a weapon suited for aggression with its strong hip fire accuracy and rate of fire. The MP5 is also effective at flanking enemy teams and objectives. The SMG class gives players high mobility and fast aim down sight (ADS) speed, so players can easily get the jump on unsuspecting enemies.

This guide will go over two of the best MP5 builds in Modern Warfare: balanced aggression and stealth. For a detailed guide on the M4A1, check out our guide here, or a general beginner's guide to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players can read it here.

Best All-Around MP5 Loadout

  • Muzzle: Compensator
  • Laser: 1 mW Laser
  • Underbarrel: Commando Foregrip
  • Ammunition: 10mm Auto 30- Round
  • Weapon Perk: Sleight of Hand

This loadout gives players the opportunity to get easy kills at close-medium range. With the Compensator Muzzle and Commando Foregrip Underbarrel, the MP5 will fire with extremely low recoil, which gives players a great advantage in any fight. The 1 mW Laser gives the MP5 incredible hip fire accuracy and make close range battle really easy. 10mm Auto 30- Rounds give players the little extra punch and range they need to compete at medium ranges.

For perks, players will want to run Double Time (Perk 1), Ghost or Hardline (Perk 2), and Battle Hardened (Perk 3). For the Field Upgrade, Dead Silence is a great choice. Double Time lets players run around as much as possible. The second perk is mostly preference. Ghost allows players to stay hidden from enemy killstreaks, and with Hardline and low killstreaks, players can easily earn a UAV almost every life. With this build, players will spend a lot of time in the enemy territory making Battle Hardened a great choice against enemy utility.

The Best Flanking/Stealth MP5 Loadout

  • Barrel: Subsonic Integral
  • Laser: 1 mW Laser
  • Stock: FORGE TAC Ultralight or FFS Close Quarters Stock
  • Ammunition: 10mm Auto 30-Round or 45 Round Mags
  • Rear Grip: Stippled Grip Tape

This loadout is designed to flank and attack unsuspecting enemies with superior close range abilities and stealth. The Subsonic Integral Barrel is a suppressor that prevents gunfire from revealing players on the minimap. Similar to the All-Around Build, the 1 mW Laser allows the player to shoot from the hip with great accuracy. The FORGE TAC Ultralight is used for the mobility it gives when players aim down sights while the FFS Close Quarters Stock gives players more accuracy when the ADS. The Stock comes down to mostly preference: mobility or accuracy.  The ammunition is also preference as well. 10mm Auto 30-Rounds gives players a little bit more damage and range they lose with the suppressor, and 45 Round Mags gives players more firing sustainability and the ability to string together more close range kills. The Stippled Grip Tape also gives even more ADS speed, so players will always stay ready to get close range kills.

For perks, players will want to run Double Time (Perk 1), Ghost (Perk 2), and Tune Up (Perk 3). For the Field Upgrade, players will want to take Dead Silence. Double Time lets players move around the map faster, Ghost gives players extra stealth from enemy killstreaks, and Tune Up will keep Dead Silence up as much as possible. Dead Silence is essential to a stealth build since it'll help players sneak up on enemies.
