Modern Family's Haley Dunphy is the eldest of the Dunphy household and of the grandchildren. As the daughter of Claire and Phil, she's one of the ditzier of the kids. Her sister Alex is the brainiac and her brother Luke is a charismatic entertainer. Haley, on the other hand, didn't know what her best attributes or hobbies were besides being pretty. It took (around) nine seasons for Haley to finally realize she was capable of more mature and honest work and relationships.
Now that Haley is a mother to twins and a wife to Dylan, we're taking a look back at her more shameless moments. Although Haley probably isn't proud of these moments now, they clearly made her who she was and she's (hopefully) learned from her mistakes.
CRITICIZED A CO-WORKER TO GET THE JOB
With Andy helping out Gloria and Jay, Haley and Andy create a great friendship. Being the younger versions of Phil and Claire, these two pushed each other to face their fears and reach their goals.
Both Andy and Haley decide to help each other get their dream jobs, Haley's being working with famed designer Gavin Sinclair. After having one look at Haley, Gavin wasn't interested in her company unless she listed five things wrong with one of his worker's outfits. Haley shamelessly named five things wrong with her look and then asked if she should list what's wrong with Gavin's look in return. Shockingly, this brutal honesty worked in her favor.
SLEPT WITH ANDY WHEN HE WAS ENGAGED TO ANOTHER WOMAN
It was made clear early on that Haley and Andy had an incredible bond. The two became friends before realizing that something romantic was happening between them. The only problem is that Andy was engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Beth. Haley respected their relationship to an extent until she followed her instincts and acted on her feelings for Andy. The two slept together until Andy eventually broke it off with Beth.
TOOK EMBARRASSING SELFIES OF ALEX FOR LIKES
Alex and Haley couldn't be any more different. Alex is smart, timely, considerate, and has a greater understanding of the world. Haley is vain, unprofessional, and immature. Alex went off to Caltech while Hayley got kicked out of college for partying.
Alex won awards for science while Haley won awards for homecoming. When these two did hangout, it usually ended in eye-rolls and catfights. And for poor Alex, it typically ended with Haley taking embarrassing pictures of her and posting them to social media for the whole school to laugh at her.
PRETENDED TO BE ANOTHER WOMAN TO HELP CAM
In the episode "Sarge & Pea," we see Haley and Cameron visit Alex at her new job at a local cafe. Cam gets upset when he sees a mother from Lily's dance class who "robbed him" of seeing his little girl dance. Knowing she was there for a blind date, Cam pretended to be her date so he could berate her for taking his moment. Meanwhile, Haley held down the fort while pretending to be the woman Cam was talking to. The mystery man couldn't believe how beautiful Haley was, so when he found out it was all a joke, he still asked her for her number. Haley, of course, denied and strutted home.
NEVER PAYING HER PARKING TICKETS, WHICH RESULTED IN HER DAD BEING ARRESTED
After Phil picked Luke up from dance class, he was pulled over by a cop for having a missing taillight. However, when the cop came back to the window, he arrested Phil for having over $1,800 in unpaid parking tickets.
Unbeknownst to him, Haley racked up parking ticket after parking ticket and never paid them off. What's worse is this wasn't the first time this happened but it was the first time a member of her family went to jail for her.
USING A RANDOM GUY FOR COACHELLA TICKETS
In the episode "Sleeper," we see Haley and Luke at the laundromat where a young man approaches Haley. She doesn't appear to remember where she knows him but as it turns out, they went to Coachella together a year prior... He had an extra ticket and took her along but we soon learn that Haley ditched him at the concert, leaving him worried. He spent the whole day looking for her to make sure she was safe. By the time he left the venue, his car was ruined and he had no way of getting home. If that wasn't bad enough, she even tried asking him if he had a ticket for that year's concert.
MAKING IT LOOK LIKE CLAIRE WAS PREGNANT AGAIN
After the Dunphy family finds an old box of memories, they find Claire and Phil's old answering machine. Back when every household had a house phone, they also had a answering machine where people could leave their messages. The kids listened to old messages and they find the one of Claire telling Phil she was pregnant with Haley.
To get inside Phil and Claire's heads, Haley finds a way to send the very same message to Phil again, leading him to believe that Claire was pregnant with their fourth kid. Haley's little stunt ended up making Phil and Claire get into a real argument.
LOVING HER CELLPHONE MORE THAN HER SISTER
In "The Day We Almost Died," we see the Dunphy family in a near-fatal car accident. Thankfully, no one in the car was injured but it did make the Dunphys love a little tighter that day. With the Dunphy family realizing they just escaped death, Haley and Alex hugged each other, with Haley saying "Oh my god, I thought I lost you!". The moment made Alex realize that her sister really did love her. However, by the end of the episode, we find out Haley was talking to her cellphone, not her sister...
ALL THE TIMES SHE SNUCK OUT OF THE HOUSE
Haley's been sneaking out of her house since Season 1. She tried escaping family nights at Jay and Gloria's, she tried sneaking away on a family vacation in Hawaii, and she sneaks in and out of the house whenever her parents go to bed. She's pretty good at it even though she gets caught here and there. We know Haley is doing something that most teens do but she clearly didn't care how many times she got caught.
PRETENDED TO HAVE A JOB AS A WAITRESS TO GET HER PARENTS OFF HER BACK
When Haley was still in high school, her parents were adamant about Haley doing more with her life. She decided to pretend to get a job as a waitress instead of actually getting a job as a waitress. The only problem is, her entire family came to the restaurant she was supposed to be working at. Haley showed up in a matching white shirt and pretended to be their waitress for the night (she ordered their food as her own food and simply dropped off the plates). Claire and Phil were both so proud (even though Alex knew what she was up to) but by the end of the night, Haley says she was "fired" due to her parents' public argument.
