Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who is best known for his role as Mitchell Pritchett on Modern Family, gave his thoughts on the latest rumors of a spinoff. The mockumentary sitcom followed three different parts of the Pritchett family in Los Angeles. The show ran for eleven seasons after premiering in 2009 and was highly rated and a critical success, earning multiple Emmy Awards, including Best Comedy Series for its first five seasons.

A large portion of the popularity comes from the relationship between Mitchell Pritchett and Cameron Tucker, a married gay couple who adopted a baby named Lily in the pilot episode and a baby named Rexford in the series finale. Mitchell is known for being more mild-mannered and reserved while Cameron, played by Eric Stonestreet, is melodramatic and uninhibited in his personality. But the couple evolved over the series and fans have been hoping there will be a spinoff involving the Tucker-Pritchett family.

Now, according to E! Online's Daily Pop, Ferguson has responded to the rumors. He said that he has not been contacted about doing a potential spinoff, but the idea has been discussed previously. When fans last saw the couple in the series finale, Cam and Mitch left for Missouri after Cam was offered a job coaching football at a college. Ferguson's full quote can be read below:

"Nothing is official. I have not been asked to do anything yet, so you know, it's being talked about, but I haven't heard anything official."

Since Modern Family is an ensemble show, it makes sense that a spinoff might focus on just one part of the family, especially since Mitch and Cam's ending left room for more opportunities. A lot of spinoffs originated with one of the characters moving to a different area not set in the original series such as Frasier from Cheers set in Seattle and Joey from Friends set in Los Angeles.

While there is no official word yet on a spinoff, the idea of revisiting Mitchell and Cameron would certainly draw in fans of Modern Family. And it would be interesting to see their family settle in a completely different atmosphere than their life in wealthy suburban Los Angeles. For now, fans can still watch the entirety of the series and enjoy the humor and distinctiveness that was Mitch and Cam with the rest of their blended family.
