The recent classic American sitcom Modern Family ended nearly two years ago in a two-part finale of the show's 11th season. In the final scenes, all three sets of parents were preparing for a new version of the future, while most of the kids had reached college age or older, and were doing the very same.

So where has everyone landed since the finale's famous, emotional group hug? While the story of the Pritchett's, Delgado's, and Dunphy's seems open and closed, there has been speculation about a Mitch and Cam spinoff, but nothing is confirmed. Many of the actors have moved onto new projects that fans can enjoy though.

Ty Burrell - Duncanville

Ty Burrell charmed viewers everywhere as the clumsy, goofy, big-hearted Phil Dunphy who only ever wanted the love and approval of his wife, kids, and most memorably his father-in-law.

Much like his co-star Sofía Vergara, Ty's latest project is of the animated variety, though this time it is a television series called Duncanville. He stars alongside Amy Poehler as Jack Harris, another goofy father figure with a wife and three kids.

Sofía Vergara lit up the screen with her performance as Gloria Pritchett, a loving and lively wife and mother who was proud of her Columbian heritage and always let it shine.

Since Modern Family came to an end, Sofía has done large commercial campaigns for companies like Ritz and went on to executive produce and star in the animated comedy film Koati. The feature was released in October 2021 and stars Sofía as a wicked snake named Zaina who poses a threat to the rainforest.

Julie Bowen - Mixtape

Julie Bowen portrayed the high-strung, perfectionist matriarch Claire Dunphy who had no limits to what she would do for her family. In the time since the series finale aired, she has guest-starred in multiple comedies like American Dad and season 11 of Curb Your Enthusiasmbut her latest project is a Netflix original movie entitled Mixtape.

In the film, she plays an overprotective young grandmother named Gail who struggles to talk about her late daughter, leaving her granddaughter Beverly to find out more for herself.

Ed O'Neill - No Planned Projects

Ed O'Neill was welcomed into fans' homes as Jay Pritchett, the old-fashioned grandfather, father, and father-in-law who seemed set in his ways, but would always bend at the end of the day to surprise those he loved.

Modern Family is the second sitcom hit for Ed after Married With Children ended in 1997. While he has not announced retirement or an end to his successful acting career, he is likely taking a deserved break for the time being.

Since playing the brilliant and hilarious Mitchell Pritchett,  half of the famous duo Mitch and Cam, Jesse Tyler Ferguson has done some guest spots here and there, including voice work on Pete the Cat. He is even making his return to his Broadway roots in the show Take Me Out this spring.

Fans looking to see him on screen can catch him in is the TV docuseries History of the Sitcom in which he discusses Modern Family and other sitcom classics that have inspired him through the years.

Eric Stonestreet - No Planned Projects

The talented Eric Stonestreet is best known for spending over a decade as the charming, sometimes dramatic, always lovable Cameron Tucker. Since the show's finale, Eric has not yet started his next big project.

He's voiced a character on Madagascar: A Little Wild and made reality TV appearances including a guest spot on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but otherwise seems to be taking a break. Considering he recently got engaged, he is likely enjoying time focusing on his personal life.

Rico Rodriguez - No Planned Projects

Rico Rodriguez was a breakout star as Manny Delgado in Modern Family, able to keep up with a sitcom legend like Ed O'Neill with ease while playing his stepson.

After a successful journey growing up on the show, Rico has not moved forward with or announced any new projects yet. Since the show ran for about half of his life so far, a break is understandable for some time to come of age and figure out the types of projects he's interested in next.

Ariel Winter - Kingdom Hearts: Melody Of Memory

Much like her co-star Rico, Ariel Winter grew up on the show while playing Alex Dunphy, the smartest of the Dunphy clan who would insist she wasn't a nerd while also taking pride in her brilliance.

Since the show wrapped, Ariel has had multiple projects in the works, including reprising her role of Princess Sofia from Disney Junior's Sofia the First in the more recent show Elena of Avalar. Additionally, gaming fans can hear Ariel's voice as Young Kairi in the video game Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory. 

Sarah Hyland - Bone, Marry, Bury

Though she was playing a teenager, most of Sarah Hyland's time as Haley Dunphy, Phil and Claire's oldest daughter who is carefree and somewhat ditzy, took place during her 20s.

While she doesn't have many on-screen projects lined up, Sarah is lending her voice to the podcast series Bone, Marry, Bury playing the main character Allie who is having the worst time of her life after she ends up at a life-changing party. She is also engaged to reality TV star Wells Adams and likely spending time planning a wedding.

Nolan Gould - What's Up North

Nolan Gould underwent a huge transformation along with Rico and Ariel when he played the mischievous troublemaker of the youngest child, Luke Dunphy, throughout his childhood and into early adulthood.

Since the show wrapped, Nolan has been in three episodes of the satirical variety show What's Up North as Travis Tordjman, who is also the host of the show. He is also set to play Ivan in a movie entitled Camp, but the release date is currently unknown.
