On a show like Modern Family, it's hard to say who the most fashionable is. We have Mitchell and Cameron who always try to make a statement through their clothes and decorations. Claire may look like your typical working housewife but she has a real conservative flare to her look. Phil and Jay always look handsome in their suits and let's not forget about Haley and Manny's dedication to a good look. However, if there was a character who continuously dropped jaws, it was Gloria.
As the wife of Jay, she has all the money in the world to buy dresses and shoes. We've even seen her explain that she purposefully shows up late to special occasions just so people can rave about how she looks. It all pays off, of course. Gloria always looks stunning in her tight-fitting clothes and accessories, so let's take a look at five of her best moments (and five of her worst moments... even though her worst isn't even bad!).
BEST: THE DRESS DESIGNED FOR OPRAH'S HOUSE
In the ninth season, we see the gang head up to Wine Country for a wine getaway weekend. As per usual, the gang is up to their own secrets and everyone sneaks off at one point to do their own thing.
After Mitchel and Gloria run into an old friend, he invites them to a party he's throwing at Oprah Winfrey's house. To dress to impress, Gloria wears a stunning gold sequin dress that fit her like a glove. She really did look like Miss Universe!
WORST: WHEN SHE STOPPED CARING
To Gloria's credit, she dressed like a slob on purpose to make a point to her husband. It's not like she would ever leave the house like this if she wasn't trying to make a point. Regardless, this look proves that Gloria is gorgeous but when she wants to look a little tired, she knows exactly what to do.
Wearing old sweats, dirty hair, and lipstick all over her mouth, Gloria looks like she definitely doesn't belong next to Jay. Luckily for him, we didn't see Gloria pull this look again after 11 seasons.
BEST: HER ROBERTO CAVALLI DRESS
Due to Gloria's tight-fitting clothes, it's easy to see that she has curves in all the right places. Knowing her figure perfectly, Gloria wears clothes that really accentuate her curves and separates her from practically every human being alive.
When she wore this tiger striped-inspired dress by designer Roberto Cavalli, all eyes were on her. The neckline laid perfectly on her chest and she wore a gorgeous necklace to show it off. Her hair also beautifully matches.
WORST: HER PREGNANCY STYLE
When Gloria became pregnant with little Joe, she's not willing to accept that she's getting bigger. She's nervous about gaining weight not fitting into all of her beautiful clothes. She decides that she'll wear her pre-pregnancy clothes as long as she can before she can't fit in them anymore.
Sadly for her, she was ignoring the fact that her clothes no longer fit her. In one episode, her sweater wouldn't stay buttoned and her jeans were having a hard time staying on her. Due to being so uncomfortable and nothing fitting correctly, this look wasn't one of her strongest.
BEST: WHEN SHE DRESSED AS MARILYN MONROE FOR HALLOWEEN
In the 10th season, the gang is heading over to the Dunphy residence to celebrate Halloween. Sadly, the Halloween party is a bust because Claire and Mitchell found out that their mom had passed away. To make matters even more uncomfortable, everyone was grieving while dressed up in costume.
Gloria dressed up as Marilyn Monroe in her "Diamonds Are A Girl's Bestfriend" outfit. With the diamonds around her neck and the pink-fitted dress, she looked even better than Marilyn herself.
WORST: HER FIRST SEASON LOOKS WEREN'T THE BEST
You could say Modern Family tried their best to make a statement in the first season but it was also a season of trial and error. They tried a few different outfits on Gloria that didn't quite match her or her personality.
While the style was different back in 2009 when the show started, seeing Gloria in short-sleeved shirts that hung loosely around her didn't match how absolutely stunning she already was. Going forward, we started seeing her in long-sleeve shirts and dresses with low necklines that fit her like they were custom made.
BEST: GLORIA BECOMES A US CITIZEN
Seeing Gloria in her new American outfit (gifted to her by her husband) was an adorable moment. After studying incessantly, Gloria was ready to take the test for her citizenship. When she passed, Jay had an American outfit for her to wear as the family grilled steaks.
And while the shorts were a little young for her and the shirt was very small, Gloria put it on and looked like a knockout. It was impossible to be mad at the woman when she was wearing something like this!
WORST: HER CHURCH OUTFITS ARE ANYTHING BUT HER
Gloria is a religious woman who tried to instill her religious beliefs in Manny but they didn't stick the way she'd hoped (just like learning Spanish). In the earlier seasons, we saw Gloria going to church more often then she does in more recent episodes, and she wore outfits that made her look like a different person.
While it's respectful to dress conservatively at church, Gloria was so conservative she didn't even look like herself. And while the outfit she's wearing is beautiful, it just doesn't match the Gloria we know and love today.
BEST: GLORIA'S FUNKY VALENTINE
In the episode "Funky Valentine," we learn about Claire and Phil's Valentine's Day tradition of roleplaying. While they're at a swanky bar pretending to be other people, we see Gloria and Jay heading to see a standup comedian.
For the night dedicated to love, Gloria wore a stunning one-shoulder red dress. Her hairstyle also matched the dress perfectly, highlighting her tanned skin and pretty diamond earrings,
WORST: PINK ON PINK ON PINK
In the episode "Whanex," there's a competition for a local ad campaign. To win the part, she tricks Phil and Joe into joining her. And while the three of them look like the stereotypical American neighbor from Leave it to Beaver, it's not our favorite look on Gloria.
With such a sassy and fiery personality, we love to see that reflect in her ensembles. And this pink on pink on pink preppy look doesn't do that. It's almost like she's pretending to be someone that' she's not and that's not what Gloria Pritchett should stoop to!
