Cameron Tucker made audiences laugh, smile, and feel emotional during 11 seasons of Modern Family. He loved musicals, having a good time, being with loved ones, and any excuse for a photoshoot. Fans watched his relationship with Mitchell evolve as the two became parents and got married, and while their season 5 wedding day wasn't without problems, it was still a beautiful and moving part of the series.

Whether watching specific beloved episodes or choosing to rewatch from the pilot to the series finale, fans know that Cam is a key part of Modern Family. There are many reasons to root for Cam as the show's protagonist.

His Love Story Is Powerful And Important

As a result of a Facebook campaign wanting Mitch and Cam to share an on-screen kiss, fans finally got to see it happen in the season 2 episode "The Kiss."

Mitch and Cam's love story is beautiful, important, and great to see on a mainstream sitcom. The show wonderfully illustrated that all anyone wants is love and acceptance for who they are. Cam's relationship has more significance than the other marriages on the show, making him a better candidate for the main character.

His Journey To Fatherhood Is More Compelling

Cam and Lily had a wonderful father-daughter relationship on Modern Family. Lily shared his charming personality, although of course, she tended to speak her mind a lot more often.

Cam's journey to fatherhood is more compelling than the other characters' on the show. Jay had a traditional marriage with two children and then became a stepfather to Manny, and Phil and Claire lived in a typical nice middle-class home with their three kids. Cam and Mitch adopted Lily and had a tough time while trying to adopt a second child, although thankfully, it worked out and they got their little boy, Rexford. If this show is about all the ways that people can be a family, this makes Cam the main character, since his story has some meaning.

He's In Many Iconic Scenes

Cam loved dressing up as Fizbo the clown and seeing him in this outfit for the first time is just one iconic scene on Modern Family.

Since Cam is the focal point of so many iconic scenes, it makes sense to view him as the show's main character. Another great Cam scene was in the season 1 episode "Great Expectations" when he and Mitch went out for drinks with their old friend and felt that they couldn't really hang out with her anymore since their lives were so different.

He Wears His Heart And Emotions On His Sleeve

It sometimes works for the main character of a TV show to be prickly and sarcastic, but only if that's in keeping with the tone of the show.

On a light-hearted sitcom like Modern Family, it works for the main character to wear their heart on their sleeve and not be scared of their emotions. This definitely describes Cam, as he is more sensitive than his family members and sometimes takes things very personally. This allowed viewers to connect with him and relate to his struggles and thoughts.

He Does His Best To Get Along With The Family

Cam and Mitch had some problems but they always stayed together. But while they had been a couple for a long time, Cam didn't have a tight bond with everyone in Mitch's family, at least not at first.

At the beginning of the show, Cam and Gloria didn't seem to have much of a relationship, but near the end of the first season, Cam wanted to change that. In the episode "Starry Night," the two characters went out for dinner at a place she used to love going to. Cam ordered the same super spicy dish that Gloria did, and it didn't go very well. This was a sweet example of him trying to get along with his family members.

He Has Relatable Problems

Many fans consider Cam to be the most hilarious character on the sitcom. But even though he says funny quotes and finds himself in humorous situations, he has some more serious scenes, too.

Cam goes through so many things on Modern Family that fans can relate to. Whether trying to find Lily a great daycare or dealing with an embarrassing memory from a childhood Halloween, Cam's storylines allow fans to connect and see themselves in this character. At first glance, he's a fun and entertaining person to watch, but he has depth to him as well.

His Life Isn't Static Or Dull

Cam became a stay-at-home parent for a while on Modern Family, and then he got a few teaching jobs. In season 4, he taught music, which didn't last, and in the fifth season, he was hired to teach history, which was even worse.

Cam's life was never the same from season to season as he went back and forth between being the parent at home and entering the workforce again. He's not sure what he really wants, which is understandable as it's a tough decision. This is another reason why fans can see him as the main character. If his life never changed, he would seem boring.

His Own Family Provides Conflict

From his sister Pam to his mother who Mitch doesn't like very much, Cam's own family life is entertaining but often very dramatic.

If a show's main character comes from a totally happy family with no tension or problems, that's not very interesting to watch, so it's great that Cam's background comes with some conflict. This also allows Cam to have his own storylines that don't have much to do with the rest of the family.

He Loves Throwing Parties And Celebrating Big Events

Mitch and Cam had many great episodes and these sometimes featured special events or holidays, including "Undeck The Halls" when they wanted Lily to get a photo with Santa.

The main character on a TV show about contemporary family life should be all about gatherings and celebrations since these events are how families spend time with each other and create happy memories. Luckily, Cam loves a good party, and while he would sometimes plan something over-the-top or become too stressed, this was part of his process.

He's Able To Go After His Big Dream

In the Modern Family series finale, Mitch and Cam moved to Missouri as Cam accepted a coaching position.

Cam went after his dream and while he had some nerves and apprehension about letting Mitch know what he really wanted, he didn't let that fear stop him. This makes him a perfect main character as his story is a true journey. He proves that it's okay to be scared to do something, but it's important not to let fear get in the way.
