Warning: Spoilers for Mob Psycho 100 Season 3, Episode 7

In the new arc of Mob Psycho 100 following Dimple's disappearance, Mob joins the Telepathy Club in their hunt for a telepath strong enough to reach into space, but it doesn't take long to realize that one has been hiding in plain sight the entire time.

Mob had previously been recruited into the Telepathy Club to help them meet the minimum number needed in order to exist as an official club, since they had just lost a member. While Mob ultimately didn't join, the Body Improvement Club allowed them to continue sharing their clubroom, since they were mostly outdoors exercising. With the school year approaching its end, club leader Tome Kurata wants to attempt their goal of signaling telepathically to aliens, but the others are less concerned, upsetting her and causing her to disband the club. To make up for this, the other club members ask Mob if he'll help them find someone with telepathic ability.

Mob ends up introducing the club to the Shiratori brothers, a pair of twins who can communicate telepathically--but only with each other. They devise a plan to create telepathic "noise," hoping someone with stronger telepathy will hear it and investigate. Mob uses his own power to amplify their noise, creating a moderately sized radius in which they should be heard. At that moment, the Telepathy Club's original lost member, Momozo Takenaka, enters the room. While initially dismissive, Takenaka ends up begging them to stop the experiment, because he's the one picking up all that noise. It turns out that Takenaka originally joined the Telepathy Club hoping to meet another person with psychic powers, but when he discovered they mostly just sat around and played video games, he decided to do another extracurricular instead.

Other Psychics at Mob's School?

It's interesting to realize that this means that a student with a pretty decent level of psychic power has been right under their nose the whole time. Mob hasn't interacted directly with Takenaka before, but Takenaka is explicitly able to read the minds of others, even when he doesn't want to. Takenaka seems equally surprised to find out about Mob, so it must still be pretty difficult even for those with psychic powers to find each other. There could be many others that the two of them are equally unaware of. While Mob is mostly ambivalent towards his powers despite not making extensive use of them on his own, it appears that psychic powers were much more of a burden for Takenaka, as he was constantly bombarded by random thoughts from those around him. Did Mob's own powers perhaps prevent his thoughts from being picked up?

With an actual, usable telepath at their disposal, it seems the Telepathy Club may finally get a step closer to achieving Tome's goal. Will their plan succeed and actually introduce aliens to Mob Psycho 100?
