In a new promotional gameplay trailer for Mortal Kombat 11, Rambo faces off against the deadly T-800 Terminator and bests the machine in an appropriately brutal fashion. Thanks to NetherRealm’s penchant for including classic movie and comic book characters as special DLC fighters for their flagship fighting franchise, fans have been able to act out cinematic dream matches like Jason Voorhees versus Leatherface in Mortal Kombat 10 and even Terminator versus Robocop in Mortal Kombat 11.

The idea of a hypothetical match-up between former Green Barret John Rambo and the Terminator in a pixelated battle to the death holds a special place in the hearts of pop culture fanatics of the late '80s to mid-'90s, as it is partly based on a real-life feud between actors Silvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. However, despite decades of barbs between the two action movie icons, a couple of shared onscreen appearances in movies like Escape Plan and the The Expendables franchise, and even a few cheeky deepfake videos, fans have been left yearning see two of Sly and Arnold’s most famous characters face off in a fight to the bitter end. Now, Rambo’s inclusion alongside the Terminator as DLC in Mortal Kombat 11 gives them the perfect opportunity to fulfill this wish.

Earlier today, NetherRealm released the Official Rambo vs. Terminator Trailer (Round 1) trailer on YouTube. This brief gameplay clip begins with Rambo and the T-800 meeting each other in a dingy alleyway in the dead of night. After Rambo notes how "dark" the Terminator's future of machines ruling over a nearly extinct human race is, the two warriors attack each other in a titular bout of Mortal Kombat. The fight between the pair is close, with Sly slicing into Arnold with his trusty hunting knife and the Terminator getting a few shots in with his superior robot strength and a variety of high-grade military firearms. In the end, the man triumphs over the machine, and Rambo dispatches the T-800 with a brutal Fatality in which he straps a yard of ammunition to him, kicks him into an electric fence to set them off and blow the Terminator in half, then finally tears the robot’s face in two with his knife.

Fans have been raving about Mortal Kombat 11 since its launch back in April thanks to its engrossing story and vast wealth of content – which has only gotten bigger in the past few months thanks to expansions like Aftermath story DLC that featured the return of popular MK villain Shang Tsung. Most recently, the game is set to make the transition into the new console generation with the Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate Edition, an enhanced collection of everything that has been released so far that will hit store shelves tomorrow.

In the meantime, shared fans of Mortal Kombat and classic 80’s action films will enjoy seeing Rambo and Terminator go head-to-head and settle that age-old debate between Stallone and Schwarzenegger. NetherRealm is sure to release a second trailer showing Terminator winning the fight in due time, but for now it seems that John Rambo is the reigning victor of their battle in Mortal Kombat 11.
