The The Mitchells vs. the Machines ending doesn't directly set up the Mitchell family's next adventure, but it does have an open-ended finale that could allow for more. The Mitchells are able to defeat the advanced AI named PAL that captured all of humanity. With the help of two reprogrammed robots, Eric and Deborahbot, Katie and her family destroy PAL. This frees all the humans captured by the evil machine and makes the Mitchells heroes. But this doesn't stop Katie from going off to college as she planned. At the end of the movie, she is reunited with her family and Eric and Deborahbot as they embark on a new adventure to Washington, D.C. This could lead to The Mitchells vs. the Machines 2's story if the Mitchells encounter more trouble on their latest road trip.
