A mystery character from Mission: Impossible - Fallout is returning in Mission: Impossible 8. The Mission: Impossible franchise has grown in leaps and bounds in recent years thanks to the continued collaboration between star Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie. After first working together in the series with McQuarrie helping on the fourth movie's script, he then made the jump to direct the last two films. Cruise and McQuarrie are now working hard on reportedly ending Ethan Hunt's story in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One for 2023 and Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two for 2024.

Along with the overall quality of the movies and a desire to continue making breathtaking stunts possible, one of the keys to the Mission: Impossible franchise's resurgence has been connecting all of the movies together. That is one of the many reasons why audiences are curious to see what McQuarrie delivers after Mission: Impossible - Fallout. The upcoming seventh installment includes plenty of new characters, but it also brings back Ilsa Faust, the White Widow, and Ethan Hunt's usual helpful IMF team. Additionally, Christopher McQuarrie found a major role for Kittridge in Mission: Impossible 7, who was last in 1996's Mission: Impossible.

In a new interview with the Mission: Impossible podcast Light The Fuse, Christopher McQuarrie revealed there is a secret returning Fallout character in Mission: Impossible 8. The director stopped by the podcast to celebrate its 200th episode, and while he did not reveal much information about the next two films, the mystery character was one tease he felt comfortable sharing. Obviously, McQuarrie did not reveal the identity of this character but did tease a bit about how they are involved.

There is a returning character from Fallout and returning in a delightfully unexpected way… Kind of an Easter egg in part one and then in full force in part two.

Mission Impossible Henry Cavill Return Fallout Death SR

The cast of Mission: Impossible - Fallout is quite expansive, but there are already a number of characters confirmed to return in Mission: Impossible 7 & 8. Tom Cruise is clearly back as Ethan Hunt for the next two movies, while Rebecca Ferguson's Ilsa Faust, Vanessa Kirby's White Widow, Simon Pegg's Benji Dunn, and Ving Rhames' Luther Stickell are also returning. McQuarrie previously teased the idea of Alec Baldwin's Alan Hunley or Henry Cavill's August Walker returning despite their deaths, while Angela Bassett's Erica Sloane was originally meant to appear before COVID restrictions.

There are clearly a lot of potential options for who Mission: Impossible 8's mystery Fallout character is. Other options not mentioned above include Sean Harris' villain Solomon Lane, who was left alive at the end of Fallout, or even Michelle Monaghan's Julia. Considering the major role that Lane has played over the last two films, his return for Mission: Impossible 8 would not be too surprising at this point. Many will certainly be rooting for more of Cavill in some fashion, though. Since McQuarrie has no interest in revealing this character now, audiences will have to wait to see how Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One teases their Mission: Impossible 8 return.
