The Mission: Impossible 7 working title has now been revealed, as the highly anticipated production gets set to begin. It’s only been two years since Christopher McQuarrie’s Mission: Impossible Fallout arrived, but the demand for more continues.

Dubbed by some as the greatest action film of all time, Mission: Impossible Fallout was indeed spectacular. Much of this (as always) can be attributed to the franchise’s star, Tom Cruise, and his insatiable desire to always be taking things to the next level. From the moment that Fallout completed its theatrical run, fans were ready for more and Cruise certainly wasn’t about to hold back. It was soon announced that not only would Cruise be returning for another Mission: Impossible, but that the franchise’s most successful director to date, McQuarrie, would once again be at the helm. As if this news wasn’t spectacular enough, McQuarrie also revealed that he would be shooting two Mission: Impossible films back to back, with the subsequent release dates coming a year apart. Obviously this was exactly the sort of thing that M:I fans wanted to hear and production news on the projects has been slow but steady.

So far Mission: Impossible fans are unclear on the plot from the upcoming seventh film, though they are being kept up to date on its cast. Fans have even had insight into at least one of the film’s shooting locations, but so far the exact title of the film remains unknown. Now thanks to Production Weekly, we know that M:I 7’s working title will be Libra. We also know the film is set to kick off its production schedule this month. McQuarrie appears to have an affinity for astrology, as Fallout’s working title was Gemini. It might not leave us any closer to knowing what the next film in the series will officially be called, but it certainly proves that things are in motion.

Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible 4

Perhaps most frustrating about this new working title is it likely doesn’t give us even a tiny insight into the film itself. It’s hard to imagine exactly how the working title Gemini reflected anything in Fallout, and by that standard, it’s clear that Libra will likely be just as empty of a working title for Mission: Impossible 7. The only thing to note from these working titles is that Libra doesn't directly follow Gemini in the list of astrological signs. Still, it's unclear if that's of any significance.

This being said, fans haven’t exactly been left in the dark over the upcoming installment’s direction. Cruise and co. are back once again, and even a familiar but long since forgotten face is returning to the cast for Mission: Impossible 7. In all honesty, however, the plots of M:I films are all too often secondary when compared to the high level of stunts and action sequences. Cruise is nothing if not entirely unpredictable in this regard, meaning that the biggest questions surrounding Libra involve what the 57-year-old has planned.

There is also the question of whether or not Mission: Impossible 7 will directly connect to the eighth installment, much in the same way that franchises such as Harry Potter and The Hunger Games have previously done. The fact that the two films are being shot back to back and by the same director, with only a year separating each release, seems to give credence to this theory. At the same time, however, until official news arrives in one way or another, fans will continue to have to settle for sporadic updates. But with production looking like it’s about to get underway, there’s every chance that news regarding Mission: Impossible 7 and its currently nameless counterpart will begin arriving on a more regular basis.
