Simon Pegg reveals that Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible 7 stunts terrified him and teases even crazier stunts in the in-production eighth film. Plot details for the upcoming installment are currently unknown, though it will see the return of Cruise's Ethan Hunt and Pegg's Benji Dunn, as well as Rebecca Ferguson's Ilsa Faust, Vanessa Kirby's Alanna Mitsopolis and Henry Czerny's Eugene Kittridge from the original Mission: Impossible movie. The new film will also mark the franchise introduction of stars Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Rob Delaney, Charles Parnell, Indira Varma, Mark Gatiss, Cary Elwes and Esai Morales as the film's primary villain.

Development on Mission: Impossible 7 was first announced in early 2019 with plans to shoot it and Mission: Impossible 8 back-to-back for 2021 and 2022 releases with Christopher McQuarrie returning to write and direct thanks to the success of his past three installments in the series. The consecutive shooting schedule was ultimately scrapped due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and both films' release dates pushed back multiple times in Cruise and Paramount's hopes of retaining a solely theatrical release for the action films. With filming on Mission: Impossible 7 having finally concluded in late 2021, those behind the film are offering new insight into what's to come from the highly anticipated sequel.

While speaking with RadioTimes.com, Simon Pegg offered some insight for the long-awaited Mission: Impossible 7. In reflecting on the action sequences for the sequel, Pegg revealed that Tom Cruise's stunts in the film terrified him and that the franchise star's work in the eighth film is even crazier. See what Pegg said below:

"Oh it's absurd. I mean, the stuff he did for [Mission: Impossible] 7 was just kind of terrifying! As we always do, it's like, how are you going to do more than that? And then I just saw footage of what he's doing for 8 and it just terrifies me. I just hope they pay me anyway, you know?"

Since launching in 1996, the Mission: Impossible film franchise has become well-known for its bombastic stunt sequences involving star/producer Tom Cruise. Each new sequel has seen Cruise seek to one-up himself from the previous film, with Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol seeing the A-lister scaling the iconic Burj Khalifa in Dubai while the most recent installment, Mission: Impossible — Fallout, showed Cruise hanging from a helicopter by a rope and performing a High Altitude Low Opening jump sequence. The last film also saw Cruise break his leg while jumping between buildings, resulting in production shutting down for seven weeks while he recovered.

Pegg's tease of Cruise's Mission: Impossible 7 stunts being terrifying falls in line with writer/director Christopher McQuarrie's previous talks of the stunts to come from the action sequel, as well as that of Mission: Impossible 8, which he said has even scarier stunts. Footage screened at last year's CinemaCon also showed what is cited by the cast as the most dangerous stunt they've ever attempted as Cruise base jumps off the side of a cliff from a dirtbike by freefalling for approximately six seconds before pulling his parachute. Audiences will be waiting with bated breath to see what's to come from the next film when Mission: Impossible 7 hits theaters on July 14, 2023.
