Tom Cruise rehearses a water stunt in new images from the set of Mission: Impossible 7. Director Christopher McQuarrie is returning to the spy-thriller for the third time since boarding the franchise back in 2015 via Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation. Much like how these movies have pushed the envelope when it comes to crazy stunt work, viewers can expect to see new and bolder action sequences even when coronavirus is making it extra difficult to film.

Coming from a franchise-high in Mission: Impossible — Fallout, fans have big expectations for the upcoming blockbuster. Its predecessor was not only beloved by critics, but it also posted the series' biggest opening weekend. Cruise is not only the actor returning for Mission: Impossible 7; it's been confirmed that Rebecca Ferguson (Ilsa Faust), Ving Rhames (Luther), Simon Pegg (Benji), and Vanessa Kirby are all starring alongside its lead star. There are also some new additions to the cast in Hayley Atwell, Esai Morales, Shea Whigham, and Pom Klementieff in currently unconfirmed roles.

Cruise and the rest of the crew for Mission: Impossible 7 continues to be hard at work with the film. In new images from Just Jared, the actor is rehearsing a water stunt in the Venice Canals where he jumps from one water taxi to another. In light of the coronavirus pandemic, Cruise, as well as, the crew present on the scene are wearing maks. Check out the image below:

Cruise is known for wanting to do his own stunts and over the years, he has elevated what they can do in the Mission: Impossible franchise with very minimal CGI work. Throughout the franchise's history, the actor has climbed the Burj Kalifa in Dubai in Ghost Protocolclung to the side of an Airbus 400 at full speed in Rogue Nation; and hung from a helicopter and skydove in Fallout. So frankly, this appears to be an easy sequence to film, although it's ensuring his and other people's safety is very important and rehearsing any stunt minimizes the chances of any mistakes. The actor suffered a pretty serious injury while working on Fallout and it's something that they don't want to happen again.

For those who may be concerned that the action sequence that Cruise in these photos is disappointing compared to what he's done before, it's worth noting that Mission: Impossible 7 is also filming a string of other stunts. Over the last few weeks, several set photos and videos have popped online giving fans an idea of the kind of action set pieces they can expect from the film. That includes a sequence high up in the mountains, a motorcycle cliff scene, and a bit on top of a fast-paced train.
