New set videos from Mission: Impossible 7 reveal the cast filming an epic stunt on top of a moving train. The much-awaited seventh installment in the popular spy-thriller series is currently filming in Norway after numerous delays throughout the spring and summer.
Originally slated to arrive in July of 2021, Mission: Impossible 7 is currently confirmed for a November 2021 release, with Mission: Impossible 8 (which is being filmed back-to-back with M:I 7), set to hit theatres in November of 2022. Of course, these dates are certainly subject to change, given that most films with blockbuster potential are having their release dates continually bumped thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition to problems with the pandemic, Mission: Impossible 7 has also had its fair share of controversies over the past several months. From rumors that the production was set to blow up a historical bridge in Poland to accusations that grossly underpaid Filipino crew members had been hired, the film has not had an easy production. Nonetheless, things appear to be running along smoothly, and previous reports that Mission: Impossible 7 will be filled with more stunts than ever before have kept excitement levels high for fans.
The latest bit of Mission: Impossible 7 set teasing comes from star Hayley Atwell while the film works its way through a Norwegian production schedule. Posting a video to her official Instagram account, Atwell showed fans what the view from the top of a speeding train looks like. Cinephilia & Beyond also captured a video of Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie preparing to film a scene on top of a moving train. Both videos can be seen below:
Not a lot is known about Atwell’s Mission: Impossible 7 character, though previous reports have found director McQuarrie praising the onscreen “vibration” between her and Cruise. Apparently, the character was created with a very specific purpose in mind, and McQuarrie was determined not to have her simply be a rehash of female characters that have come before in the franchise. If she and Cruise seem to complement each other on screen, hopefully, that relationship will include stunts as well. It would certainly be interesting to see Cruise’s high-risk efforts matched by a female counterpart. So far, considering that Atwell has teased a stunt on top of a moving train, that looks like that could very well be the case.
At this point, many Mission: Impossible fans are feeling that November 21st feels incredibly far away. Perhaps if there was absolute certainty surrounding this release date, things would feel a little more secure. However, the state of the pandemic remains problematic, and studios continue to be cautious with their releases. It's also possible the film could get delayed if Cruise or Atwell are injured filming one of these stunts, which was the case with Mission: Impossible- Fallout. Hopefully, Mission: Impossible 7 has seen the last of its delays and controversies, but the only thing about this mission is that it might just go down as the most difficult one yet.
