Mission: Impossible 6 will offer up more than the usual share of insane Tom Cruise stunt sequences, the movie's director Christopher McQuarrie has indicated in a pair of tweets posted in response to fans. Filming on the sixth Mission: Impossible film has been going on for several months now in multiple locations, and set photos have already teased some of the film's action including a motorcycle chase featuring Cruise.

The Mission: Impossible movies have always featured a lot of impressive action and stunt-work, with Cruise often jumping into the thick of things in spite of the danger to his very valuable superstar body. The series' 2011 installment Ghost Recon saw Cruise performing his most death-defying stunt to date, dangling from the outside of Dubai's 2,700-foot-tall Burj Khalifa skyscraper. For 2015's Rogue Nation, Cruise was strapped to the outside of an airplane during take-off and flight.

Expectations are that Cruise will go even further with his stunt work in Mission: Impossible 6. Director Christopher McQuarrie would give no specifics about what feats Cruise performs in the new film, but did indicate in a tweet that we might well expect multiple instances of Cruise putting life and limb on the line for the sake of our entertainment.

In a second tweet, McQuarrie indicated that some of Cruise's stunts have already been filmed, but there is still more work yet to be done. Earlier in the day both McQuarrie and Cruise tweeted that the film had wrapped shooting in New Zealand. Set photos posted in April showed Cruise and company working on a car chase in the streets of Paris.

The Mission: Impossible series has always been a safe haven for Cruise, with the five films grossing a total of $2.77 billion worldwide. Cruise could use a big hit after the disappointing performance of his big 2017 summer film The Mummy, which has taken in only $77 million domestically despite a very robust marketing campaign and the promise that it would launch a new expanded universe built around classic Universal Studios monsters.

Plot details on Mission: Impossible 6 are being kept under wraps. The movie stars Cruise as Ethan Hunt, the secret agent he first played in 1996's Mission: Impossible, an adaptation of the popular 1960s TV series starring Peter Graves and Martin Landau. He is joined by Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Monaghan, Simon Pegg, and Ving Rhames, all returning after prior appearances in the film series. Superman Henry Cavill is set to make his first Mission: Impossible appearance, with distinctive facial hair. Vanessa Kirby has also joined the cast as Cruise's new love interest.
