British Superhero Series 'Misfits' Heading To Logo

Misfits on Logo - TV

The acclaimed British superhero drama Misfits is finally finding its American home on the Viacom-owned network Logo. Starting July 19th, Logo will roll out the first six episodes, but the network has also obtained the rights for all four seasons of the BAFTA-winning show. Misfits has already been a hit with some U.S. fans on Hulu Plus, but  hasn't had a network airing until now due to the foul language and somewhat dirty brand of British humor.

The series centers on a group of teen delinquents who suddenly acquire supernatural powers after a freak electrical storm. While dropping super powers into the laps of young offenders is not usually how heroes are formed, the teens come together when they realize they aren’t the only ones who've been affected by the mysterious storm.

Said Logo's Senior Vice President of Multiplatform Programming in a statement:

"We're proud to introduce the U.S. television audience to this beloved series, which is like the mutant offspring of 'True Blood' and 'X-Men.' 'Misfits' is the perfect series for our Logo viewers who will appreciate how the show's underdogs rise up, take center stage and start blurring the lines of morality, sexuality, gender and reality itself."

Logo has recently announced that they're going to be expanding their programming outside of their trademark LGBT-themed line-up. According to the Logo’s Executive Vice President, Lisa Sherman, the network seeks to reflect recent culture shifts, while looking to still "honestly reflect our viewers' lives" by integrating some popular mainstream programs. Joining Misfits on the network's new lineup will be Storage Hunters, America's Next Top Model, and Laguna Beach.

Whether or not Logo’s current demographic will welcome the new changes with enthusiasm remains to be seen, but the network promises to not alienate fans of its current popular LGBT shows (like its flagship seires RuPaul’s Drag Race) in favor of more typical programming. While Misfits' subject matter be in line with Logo’s new programming style, its content bears certain similarities to what the network currently airs that might make it a decent bridge for Logo's viewing base.

Catch Misfits from the beginning on Logo Thursday, July 19th @ 10pm.
