The full trailer for the Daniel Radcliffe and Steve Buscemi comedy Miracle Workers offers a closer look at the story of an overworked angel and disenfranchise d God. TBS is getting set to make a comedic splash in 2019 with an adaptation of Simon Rich’s comedic novel What in God’s Name. It’s the second of Rich’s books to be translated to television, with the first being FX’s terrific Man Seeking Woman, which was based on The Last Girlfriend on Earth.
This time, Rich’s irreverent style of comedy is going bigger… a lot bigger, as it envisions heaven as a mismanaged corporation with a CEO (i.e., God) who’s just not feeling like running the business anymore. In fact, God would like to just do away with the whole Earth and human thing and open up an Asian fusion restaurant instead. That leaves Craig (Radcliffe) and the rest of the angels running the Department of Answered Prayers with a pretty big task ahead of them. Well, along with answering the billions of unanswered prayers waiting for a response.
TBS teased the series not too long ago, and though the teaser made certain viewers were aware just who was starring in the seven-episode series, there wasn’t really any indication of the scope of Miracle Workers. Thankfully, the new trailer delivers in terms of what the story is and who the various players are. Take a look at the full trailer and an official synopsis below:
“The first season of Miracle Workers is a Heaven-set workplace comedy based on Simon Rich's book What in God's Name. Radcliffe plays Craig, a low-level angel responsible for handling all of humanity's prayers, and Steve Buscemi plays Craig's boss God, who has pretty much checked out and is ready to move on to his next project. To prevent Earth's destruction, Craig and fellow angel Eliza (Geraldine Viswanathan) must answer a seemingly impossible prayer: help two humans fall in love. Karan Soni plays Sanjay, God's right-hand man.”
Miracle Workers definitely has the same sweet, idiosyncratic tone as Rich’s gone too soon Man Seeking Woman. So if you’re looking for something that’ll make you laugh that’s more along those lines, you won’t have to wait long, as the series hits TBS in February.
Miracle Workers premieres Tuesday, February 12 @10:30pm on TBS.
