After HBO Max canceled Minx midway through production on season 2, a new report confirms the show is being picked up by a new network. The erotic comedy, which is created by Ellen Rapoport, first aired on HBO Max in the spring of last year, telling the story of Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond), who joins forces with a small publisher to create the first porn magazine for women. Despite rave critical reviews (the show currently holds a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes) and a previous season 2 renewal, HBO Max suddenly canceled the show back in December and it was made clear that the show would no longer be available on the service.

Now, several weeks after star Jake Johnson announced that Minx would continue filming season 2 in the hopes of finding the show a new home, Deadline reports that a new network will be picking up the show. The report states that Starz, the home of shows like Outlander, BMF, and P-Valley, will be picking up seasons 1 and 2. Season 1 will join as part of the network's streaming library and season 2, which doesn't yet have a release date, will be a Starz exclusive. Check out Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsch's comment below on the decision to save Minx:

“We have always felt this show would be a perfect fit for our brand with our dedication to narratives by, about, and for women. Starz is proud to be the new home for this incredible show that has drawn in well-deserved critical acclaim. We’re excited to welcome Ellen and the talented ‘Minx’ team to the network and can’t wait to bring its passionate fans the second season.”

All The HBO Max Cancelation Controversies Explained

HBO Max has found itself in some hot water with fans as of late due to some surprising show and movie cancelations and removals. The move that seemingly kicked off this new precarious era for HBO Max originals was the streamer's decision to cancel Batgirl back in the summer of last year even though the movie had already been shot. Over the next few months, HBO Max would also cancel Westworld, Love Life, Raised by Wolves, Legendary, Made for Love, Time Traveler's Wife, Batman: Caped Crusader, and movies like Wonder Twins, Scoob!: Holiday Haunt, Bye Bye Bunny: A Looney Tunes Musical, and a handful of other projects.

All of these removals and cancelations come in the months after WarnerMedia merged with Discovery, Inc. last year. The merging of the two companies will also include a merging of each company's respective streaming services, HBO Max and Discovery+. As part of the merger, Warner Bros. Discovery is able to write off productions like Batgirl in the name of larger "post-merger restructuring" efforts. The company's CFO, Gunnar Weidenfels, recently addressed HBO Max's controversial content purges, explaining that the company essentially engaged in a "spending frenzy" under previous leadership, which was ultimately unsustainable.

It's unclear what other shows and movies may fall victim to Warner Bros. Discovery's restructuring and cost-cutting in the coming months, but with the company's new streaming service, simply titled "Max," expected to launch this spring, it's possible that the age of mass HBO Max cancelations and removals is a thing of the past. Although many other shows remain canceled or in limbo, fans of Minx can at least rest assured that they will get to enjoy another season of the acclaimed show on Starz at some point in the future. It remains to be seen however, if any other canceled projects will be re-homed as well.
