By showing another Minion ability, Minions: The Rise of Gru secretly revealed a fate even worse than death. Minions: The Rise of Gru follows 11-year-old Gru as his plan to join the supervillain team Vicious 6 goes awry. Originally scheduled for release in 2020, the Minions sequel was delayed twice due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. This long wait, coupled with the Minions 2 TikTok cult and GentleMinion trend led to its record-breaking box-office success. However, the sequel does not only focus on Gru’s adventures, as it also proves just how much the Minions are willing to do to save their boss.

Minions: The Rise of Gru further confirms that these yellow creatures are invincible. When Gru is kidnapped by his idol, Wild Knuckles, and taken to San Francisco, the main three Minions – Kevin, Stuart, and Bob – follow them, accidentally meeting acupuncturist Master Chow along the way. Part of the Minions’ plan to save Gru and take on the Vicious 6 is to equip themselves with fighting skills, enlisting Master Chow’s Kung Fu expertise. As they are trained, the Minions are shown to be indestructible, taking on the impact of a chair, hollow blocks, and even a metal vault without exhibiting pain.

It has already been established in previous Despicable Me movies that the Minions are invincible and immortal. In the first Minions movie, they were subjected to different forms of torture, to no avail; they even managed to enjoy the torture chamber as their bodies stretched to accommodate the machines. Throughout the franchise, they have also been shown to be repeatedly hit by various heavy-duty objects and trapped in different locations without any signs of harm. This points back to a horrifying revelation about another, one-eyed Minion named Bob who appeared in the original Despicable Me: he suffered a fate worse than death.

If Minions Can't Die, What Happened To Bob?

Bob the Minion in Despicable Me

In Despicable Me, the other Minion named Bob (different from the one who appears in Minions and Minions: The Rise of Gru) drinks an anti-gravity serum being tested by Dr. Nefario. Bob immediately drifts upwards, leaving the facility through an open window and floating away. He even reaches the moon, passing by the villain Vector, who is stranded in space at the end of the movie.

Since no known antidote exists and the effects do not fade, those who have consumed the anti-gravity serum are doomed to float permanently. Unfortunately, because of the Minions’ invincibility, they have a fate even worse than death: no matter what happens, they are set to live through the end of time. The one-eyed Bob does not appear in the Despicable Me sequels (nor is he in the prequels Minions or Minions: The Rise of Gru), he is likely still in space, where he is fated to eternally drift alone, never aging or dying.
