One talented Minecraft builder has managed to complete a project that pays homage to one of the classic fighting game series, Super Smash Bros. The build features pixel recreations of all 89 fighters that have been in the game series since the first Super Smash Bros. game was released for the Nintendo 64 back in 1999.

The Super Smash Bros. games have been among the most iconic, featuring classic and beloved Nintendo characters as they battle it out in a free-for-all brawl. With the help of weapons and powerups, also taken from the Nintendo games, each iteration of Super Smash Bros. has added to the gameplay mechanics of the installations that came before. One of the most time-honored traditions is the anticipation for a new fighter to join the latest iteration of Super Smash Bros. as Nintendo fans try to guess which character or series will be joining the ranks of the game's fighters. In recent years, the roster has expanded beyond the Nintendo franchises to include characters from games like MinecraftFinal Fantasy, and even Pac-Man.

Because the Super Smash Bros. franchise has begun to cross over with non-Nintendo IP, creative fans from other games have begun to taken notice. This was the case for Reddit user PaddyTheLegend16, who showed off their incredible artwork that featured pixel artwork for every fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The video scrolls through the rosters of all the fighters, starting with those characters available in the first Nintendo 64 version and ending with those who made their first appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Steve, the player character in Minecraft is even featured among the pixel sprites, as he was added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a DLC character in 2020.

Of course, this is not the first time that a Minecraft builder has felt the desire to pay homage to a Nintendo game. In the past, Minecraft players have shown off their builds of iconic locations in Nintendo games such as Pallet Town from the original Pokémon games, and one enterprising player who build the entire world from Zelda: Breath of the Wild in Minecraft. But Minecraft builders have also taken to recreating characters from other games as pixel art, just as PaddyTheLegend16 did. One built the original 151 Pokémon's character sprites in Minecraft.

The creative freedom that Minecraft offers allows for a unique marriage of games and art in these worlds. This Super Smash Bros. tribute is surely not the last of such endeavors that other players will undertake. For now, PaddyTheLegend16's build stands as a monument to all those who have fought in a Super Smash Bros. game.
