A clever Minecraft player built a giant, artificial sun in the ominous void that is the End. Normally, the sky in the End remains a deep, dark purple that is absent any stars or natural light source, so the player decided to create their own.
Veteran Minecraft players know the End as one of the game's most challenging locations. After going through the arduous process of finding an End Portal frame in one of Minecraft's hidden Strongholds, players must collect up to twelve Eyes of Ender to activate the portal to the End. There they will find the game's treacherous main boss, the Ender Dragon, surrounded by a legion of Endermen mobs. Besides the main island of End Stone where the End Dragon waits, players can explore the outer islands to find Ender Cities and Ender Ships that hold valuable loot. Everything in the End is visible thanks to a constant dim light, but no bright light source exists in the region's sinister sky, unlike the sun and moon which can be seen in the main overworld.
User DKTH7689 posted a video on the Minecraft subreddit recently that showcases the giant sun they built in the End's empty sky. The video begins with the player standing on the main island. As they pan to the right, a yellowish-orange orb can be seen floating in the distance. The player flies over to the artificial sun, and as they get closer, the scale of the structure becomes more apparent. Once the player reaches the sun, they slowly circle around the object to give the audience a full view of the build. DKTH7689 notes that the sun was built using yellow stained glass crafted into a sphere. The inside was then filled with lava, which can be clearly seen in the video.
If the footage is any indication, the sun may have been built on the mobile version of Minecraft. Assuming this is true, that would make the build even more impressive, even if it was done in Creative Mode. While the sun does brighten the area in its immediate vicinity, it acts as more of a cool design piece for a player's End than an actual replica of the Overworld's sun. Regardless, the comments under the video are full of players excited by the atmospheric design. Some have challenged themselves to build the sun in Survival Mode, while others want to see the build with different colors of glass.
Gawking at impressive structures created by the talented community can be part of the Minecraft experience as much as playing the game. Players often draw inspiration from others' creations and strive to replicate or innovate on intriguing designs. With all of the new features coming to Minecraft as part of the Caves & Cliffs series of updates, it's safe to say many of these additions will find their way into future builds.
