Spongebob Squarepants is no stranger to the gaming industry, with its own standalone titles on multiple platforms and past collaborations such as the Hot Wheels Unleashed Spongebob-themed season. Minecraft has done its fair share of crossovers as well, although Mojang has placed an emphasis on community creations and the player being able to build their own world and adventures. In the past, the Minecraft community has created its own mods and builds inspired by Spongebob and his friends and now fans seemed delighted at the introduction of the entirety of Bikini Bottom as well as Spongebob-related missions.

The Wild Update provided a slight revival of Minecraft after hyped died down for a few months, bringing new biomes, mobs, and materials to the already expansive survival game. However, it didn't provide a major overhaul of Minecraft itself in the way that the multiple crossovers like Sonic the Hedgehog, Minions, and even Ready Player One accomplish. These DLCs can be an engaging diversion for players who believe they've seen everything Minecraft has to offer, and players are already speculating about which Minecraft crossover could be next.
