A Minecraft player who broke the official world record of the fastest in-game speedrun took to social media to express his dejection after accidentally recording the wrong screen while live streaming. Minecraft has an extensive speed-running community that is known to be one of the largest ones in gaming. With the timeless sandbox's userbase constantly growing, the influx of players migrating to speedrun Minecraft has skyrocketed in popularity within the past year. The current Minecraft speedrun world record held by speedrunner Brentilda and completed under 10 minutes has however been unbroken for the past 8 months, and since then, no other speedrunner has come close.

Released in 2011, Minecraft is an endless open-world sandbox game with no fixed ending. Integrated with crafting and survival mechanics, players can create alm0st anything by using the game's iconic blocks and nothing more than their imagination. Thanks to this, Minecraft players have been recreating video games, movies, shows, and entire worlds from popular media properties. Fathoming its creations, most recently one dedicated player built a Hobbit Hole in Minecraft that transports players to Middle Earth in celebration of Lord of the Rings' 20th anniversary. This is one of many examples of how the title allows players creative freedom to let their imagination run free and how its longevity is endless.

8 months after achieving the world record, it appears that a new speedrunner has officially broken Brentilda's run, but with a lamentable twist. Posted on Twitter, speedrunner SmallAnt shared a quick clip of what appears to be him breaking Minecraft's speedrun world record during a Twitch live stream. Sadly, shortly after they can be seen yelling, as instead of streaming the game, SmallAnt claims that they accidentally streamed the movie National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets they were watching while gaming, marking today as one of the worst days of their lives. When taken back before the mishap, SmallAnt can be seen breaking Brentilda's world record by exactly 5 seconds, in an astonishing 9 minutes and 31 seconds.

While SmallAnt broke the world record with evidence despite the mishap, it looks like the unlucky speedrunners run wasn't published on the official speedrun website. Deeper research shows that Brentilda is still at the top with two other speedrunners who have gone a little over 10 minutes followed right after. The all-time record was previously broken by Dream who helped popularize speedrunning for the title. Dream's Minecraft world record turned out fake however and the verdict ultimately removed him from the leaderboard, giving others a better opportunity to break the run instead.

With SmallAnt's attempt to break Minecraft's world record gone wrong, it appears that an additional spot for another speedrunner has opened up to set a new record. It's currently unknown if the speedrunner will once again attempt to make the number one spot, but players can expect an official statement in the following days.
