One skilled Minecraft player recently erected a massive monument to Shrek that nearly reaches the sky. Mike Myers’s grouchy-yet-good-hearted green ogre first burst onto the pulp culture scene in 2001’s animated comedy Shrek, becoming an overnight sensation with young moviegoers of the early aughts and spawning three sequels, one spin-off starring Puss In Boots a small handful of television specials, and multiple video games such as the DICE-developed Shrek for the original Xbox. While Shrek may have faded out of the limelight in the past decade, the success of his franchise helped put Dreamworks Animation on the map and pave the way for future CGI franchises like Kung-Fu Panda and How To Train Your Dragon.

In addition to his starring roles in games like the Super Smash Bros.-inspired Shrek SuperSlam and the go-kart-centric Shrek Smash n' Crash Racing, Shrek has made his way into titles like The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild thanks to fan mods. One such mod even replaced the fearsome Nemesis from Resident Evil 3 with Shrek, tasking players with fleeing from the now-villainous ogre before he can capture them. More recently, a Valheim player recreated Shrek’s famous swamp-dwelling, complete with the fabled outhouse that he bursts out of during the opening of the first film. Even official game developers are getting in on the Smash Mouth-infused fun, as one Hunt: Showdown discovered a shout-out to Shrek’s iconic house hidden within Crytek’s multiplayer online shooter.

Naturally, it wouldn’t be long before Shrek found his way into Minecraft, as Reddit user DyingC*nt recently posted an impressive screenshot of the massive Shrek sculpture they built on Minecraft. This gigantic statue towers over the hills and trees of Minecraft's default Biome and stretches almost up to the darkened night sky. Commenters have suggested adding some vines on the surrounding trees to simulate a swamp or building a replica of Donkey, along with making a few references to the "Shrek is love, Shrek is life" meme.

Players can make just about anything in Minecraft, and users have created some impressive shout-outs to gaming and pop culture within Mojang Studios’ block-based creation sandbox. Such tributes include the classic Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters, Link’s titular recorder from The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and even a gigantic Oreo cookie. Shrek is hardly the first giant sculpture built in Minecraft either, as players have built a massive statue of a Red Panda and a life-scale replica of France’s Orléans Cathedral.

Shrek was a considerable part of many childhoods of the early 2000s, and now Minecraft fans can look in awe at this giant-sized tribute to the iconic ogre. Given how large he is here, Shrek would likely have little trouble rescuing Princess Fionna from a dragon-guarded castle or feeding off the evil Fairy Godmother - though players might wish to stay out of his swamp.
