One fan’s Minecraft sand worm is a fearsome beast that will make players want to steer clear of the desert biome. Mojang’s 3D voxel sandbox is no stranger to fresh new builds, innovative projects, or even pop-culture crossovers. One talented Minecraft player’s enormous Shrek build brought the ogre to new heights, introducing the Dreamwork’s animated franchise to Minecraft. It seems that after more than a decade, players are still finding new ways to expand Minecraft’s horizons, by thinking up new features or even dangerous mobs to put in the game.

Mojang has been consistently updating Minecraft with features of its own, including the recent Caves & Cliffs Part 2 update that added seven new biomes including Dripstone Caves, Frozen Peaks, Lush Caves, and Snowy Slopes, among others. It also added noise caves and aquifers, which change how caves generate in a Minecraft world. The Wild Update is the game’s next big update and will add Mangrove Swamps, dark cities, and more mobs like Frogs. Both big updates introduce new biomes and world generation methods in Minecraft, filling new and existing seeds with more things to explore. Despite the constant stream of new content Mojang has and will add to the game, Minecraft players have continued to dream up their own imaginative features.

Reddit user MaxUel built their own giant Minecraft sand worm that towers over players. MaxUel’s build is supposed to show what it would be like if sand worms were added as mobs in Minecraft, and the Reddit user pointed out that if the mob is implemented, players should likely avoid the desert at all costs. The sand worm build is complete with three mandibles, a circular mouth filled with sharp teeth, and a long body buried in the desert sands.

Sand worm in Minecraft makes desert exploration terrifying.

Mojang has recently added a plethora of new mobs to Minecraft, including mountain goats, the axolotl, and the glow squid. Each mob contains its own unique purpose, such as the glow squid’s glow ink sack or the axolotl’s underwater companionship. Future mobs promise challenges, too, including the hostile Warden mob that will be added to Minecraft’s darkest depths. MaxUel’s sand worm looks like the Sandworm in Frank Herbert’s Dune, an aggressive and territorial creature that roams the desert planet Arrakis and uses rhythmic vibrations on the sand’s surface to hunt and devour prey.

If added to Minecraft, the sand worm would be a dangerous mob capable of enormous destruction. Villages, player builds, and even the players themselves would be vulnerable to the mob’s colossal power. It’s not clear if Mojang would ever consider adding the sand worm in future Minecraft updates, but if the developers did, then players would have to think twice before setting up camp in a desert biome.
