A Minecraft player built a glowing jack-o'-tower for their Halloween decoration, getting their world ready for spooky season. Mojang’s 3D virtual sandbox game continues to harbor creative projects and massive builds that push the envelope on what’s possible in a voxel world. The game, which launched in 2009, has maintained its popularity for over a decade. Part of that popularity can likely be attributed to the accessibility of Minecraft, with the title consistently porting to new systems, consoles and subscriptions services. Recently, Microsoft announced Minecraft is coming to Xbox Game Pass on PC with both Java and Bedrock Editions - but another likely reason for Minecraft’s prevailing draw is the nearly limitless creative possibilities the game offers players.

After more than a decade, the Minecraft community is still hard at work coming up with innovative projects to complete inside the virtual sandbox. From incredible map rooms that recreate a world’s terrain beneath a player’s feet, to Minecraft Nether portal optical illusions that make an inactive portal seem to display the Overworld in the Nether. There always seems to be impressive new builds popping up on the Internet. And one player’s latest project is just in time for Halloween.

Posted to Reddit by hi_green_ogre_here, a Minecraft player showed off their glowing jack-o'-tower build that acts as their world’s massive decoration in time for Mojang’s annual Halloween celebration. In the daytime, the jack-o'-tower stands tall with a seemingly corrupted jack-o'-lantern staring down from above. But at night, the lava flowing from the pumpkin’s orifices creates a glowing effect. Lava spewing from atop the jack-o'-lantern's left eye mimics the look of a scar. And from inside the pumpkin, the lava acts like a candle, illuminating the decoration in the darkness.

The jack-o'-tower is an innovative Halloween build that makes excellent use of in-game features like lava, presenting an impressive creation that looks just as stunning at night. The build is especially impressive since it’s just in time for Halloween in Minecraft, as Mojang continues its annual celebration of the holiday. Those itching to participate, however, have to purchase real-life merchandise, which unlocks an in-game skin pack. However, it appears Hi_green_ogre_here created their own spooky celebration instead.

Minecraft continues to house impressive builds and there are likely more to come. Minecraft’s newly announced The Wild Update will introduce Mangrove Swamps and Deep Dark Cities to the voxel sandbox. The update will add new enemies, loot, and gameplay features, as well as new structures to explore. Like Minecraft updates in the past, The Wild update will likely spark even more innovative projects that make use of the new features and gameplay mechanics.
