Minecraft's next update should focus on fixing existing biomes instead of adding new ones. The Wild Update failed to improve birch forests or swamp biomes, despite Mojang initially announcing plans to improve them. If Mojang continues to follow its pattern of updating biomes that were on the ballot in 2019's biome vote, then the Badlands Biome is next up for an overhaul. However, there are many other biomes that could use some love in Minecraft's next update.

Minecraft contains 61 biomes, many of which are variants of a primary type. While the Wild Update was initially intended to update the swamp biome, Mojang instead added the Mangrove Swamp variant and left the original biome untouched. This decision disappointed many players who were eager to see how the original swamp biome could be upgraded. Although the Wild Update added new features to Minecraft, it failed to improve upon what was already there. Minecraft's next update should focus on overhauling existing biomes, instead of adding new ones.

An overhaul of the Badlands biome might be next, bringing tumbleweeds, a new cactus design, and the vulture mob to Minecraft. However, even if Mojang deviates from its plan and leaves the Badlands biome alone, Minecraft's next update should still include upgrades to some of the game's most barren biomes. Players' disappointment at the lack of biome upgrades in 1.19 shows that many Minecraft fans are eager to see improvements, and there are plenty of biomes that the game's next update can fix.

Minecraft Biomes To Fix - Birch Forests

Birch Forests deserve some love after their anticipated upgrade was removed from Minecraft's Wild Update. The Old Growth Birch Forest variant has slightly taller trees, but compared to the Old Growth Taiga Forest variant, which has unique tree designs, blocks, and structures, the Birch variant is clearly lacking. Mojang initially announced plans to upgrade these forests by adding fallen logs, shelf fungi, and new flowers, but these plans fell through. This decision disappointed many players who were looking forward to the proposed features. Minecraft's next update could provide these players with closure by finally overhauling the Old Growth Birch Forest variant.

Minecraft's Badlands Biome Needs To Be Fixed

An Eroded Badland in Minecraft

The Badlands upgrades announced in 2019 were interesting, and Mojang should update existing Badlands' biomes to include them. Abundant in terracotta, the Badlands biome consists of barren, sprawling mesas with gorges and rock formations reminiscent of North America's southwest. Although the Badlands is one of the rarest biomes in Minecraft, its unique appearance makes it a popular destination for Minecraft explorers.

According to Mojang's 2019 announcement, a Badlands update will include vultures, new cactus designs, and tumbleweeds. True to their scavenger nature, vultures will be drawn to the loot of fallen players, potentially flying off with interesting items. This mechanic will incentivize players to quickly return to their death sites in order to avoid losing their valuables. With a bit of attention, the Badlands has the potential to be an incredibly distinct addition to Minecraft's massive world.

Minecraft's Next Update Can Fix The Desert Biome

A Desert in Minecraft

Although given some upgrades in years past, Deserts could still use some sprucing up. Admittedly, making Deserts visually interesting is a difficult task, but integrating some of the features planned for the Badlands into Minecraft's existing Desert biomes could be an easy way to improve these vast expanses of sand. Minecraft's desert temples could also use a redesign in order to make them look interesting. Adding additional types of cactuses would help break up the monotony, and adding new types of sand or altering the color of sandstone blocks would also vary the Desert's color palette. With just a few simple upgrades, Mojang could revitalize Minecraft's Deserts.

Minecraft's Beach Biome Needs Fixing

A Beach in Minecraft

Beaches are an incredibly common biome in Minecraft, appearing where land meets water. Although these tiny stretches of sand may seem insignificant, overhauling beaches would improve every single Minecraft biome that borders an ocean. Palm trees would make a unique addition to Minecraft's flora, and updated beaches could include mobs like crabs and seagulls. These new mobs could try to eat turtle eggs, which provide scutes to Minecraft players. Shellfish like clams and oysters could spawn in the sand, and be used for food and decoration.

Beach villages could be added, with raised villager huts and dock-like walkways. Fisherman villagers could trade for a wider variety of items, and new outfit designs could incorporate seashells and palm fronds. Upgrading beaches would bring life to many Minecraft worlds and could add a host of new mobs, items, and features to the game.

Minecraft Biomes To Fix - Dark Forests

Dark Forests are a distinct biome in Minecraft that could benefit from the addition of variants. Home of Woodland Mansions, Dark Forests consist of dark oak trees and giant mushrooms. With tightly packed canopies, these forests are dimly lit and slightly ominous. While these forests are a unique addition to Minecraft's lineup, they have the potential to be even more interesting. New flora like additional mushroom and fern varieties could spruce up forest floors, and Minecraft's naturalistic moss blocks are a perfect match for the forests' dim atmosphere.

Although Dark Forests' compact canopies are one of the biome's most iconic features, varying this design could lead to some interesting terrain. Alternate tree designs for dark oaks, especially a taller variant, would break up the monotony of Dark Forests' canopies. Tall, sprawling dark oaks could also provide players with the perfect place to build treehouses similar to those built in Jungle biomes. By adding a few variations on the classic Dark Forest biome to Minecraft, and sprucing up existing Dark Forests with some new foliage, these eerie locations could enchant explorers.

Exploration is one of Minecraft's primary features, and upgrading Minecraft's biomes will significantly improve this feature by providing players with additional natural wonders to discover. Although new animals are welcome additions to Minecraft, biome upgrades have a more significant impact on Minecraft's world. Mojang hasn't announced its plans for Minecraft's future yet, and it's possible that Minecraft's developers don't plan to fix the game's biomes. However, many players hope that Minecraft's next update will finally provide the game's most neglected biomes with the attention they deserve.
