A Minecraft fan has adjusted the game's inventory screen by making the items fully vertical, with bizarre and unsettling effects. Most of the fan works in the beloved crafting game revolve around impressive structures created in-game; one notable project is a 10 kilometer Minecraft highway that took 5 months to build. In addition to grand architectural works, players have produced remarkable devices using the game's Redstone system, including playable games like Dance Dance Revolution. But some fans of the classic game think outside the box, and toy with Minecraft's basic elements in bizarre ways.

The renowned sandbox game has been around since 2011, and since then, it's undergone a lot of changes. Developer Mojang has continued to update the title through the years, and it shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon. For instance, at Minecraft Live 2021 last month, Mojang debuted the upcoming Wild Update, which will include such features as frogs, mangrove swamps, and terrifying new Deep Cities, coming to Minecraft next year. But some aspects of the game remain familiar to long-term fans; for instance, when items appear in the game's inventory screen, they tend to appear at an angle, so that they fill more of the square they appear in.

As it turns out, this angle is a rather integral feature of the inventory layout. Reddit user SexyToaster69420 has proven this by presenting an array of inventory items arranged vertically. Basic items like sticks and Blaze Rods look much less dynamic when presented in this way, and the distinct appearance of Minecraft's swords is removed when their 8-bit edges get smoothed out. Even foodstuffs like melon and cooked fish look weird when they're shifted to an angle at odds with the one fans have gotten accustomed to over the years, and items like paper and rotten flesh are all but unrecognizable.

This isn't the only change a Minecraft fan has presented for the long-running game, but most suggestions are a bit more genuine than this bizarre array. For instance, not long after the new mangrove swamp biome was announced at Minecraft Live, some fans took to the internet to request a new Minecraft mob in the form of a capybara. Such an addition would likely be an endearing feature in the new swampy ecosystem, and a good match for the frogs that are already set to appear in the biome.

Such a change would certainly be welcomed much more readily than this bizarre re-orientation of inventory items. Minecraft looks much different than it did when it was first released a decade ago, but some things may never truly change. And as SexyToaster69420 has demonstrated, maybe some things shouldn't.
