Uneasy Alliance, one of Minecraft’s most difficult challenges to complete, looks easy in a recent video by an ingenious player. The challenge revolves around ghasts, the Nether’s notorious hostile mobs that players love to mess with despite the potential danger. Ghasts are ghostly creatures in Minecraft that float with their eyes and mouths closed and make crying sounds. They can even pass through solid blocks.

Already terrifying due to their weird appearance and behavior, Minecraft ghasts were subjected to a redesign by a restless player. The initial intention to replace a ghast’s texture with a squid’s was probably viewed by the creator as a harmless idea. In reality, though, the Nether’s floating tentacle cube somehow turned out to look even more horrifying than its vanilla design. This was mostly because squid’s teeth were located exactly at the bottom of a ghast, giving it a much more intimidating appearance.

Though Uneasy Alliance is one of Minecraft's hardest achievements, it was recently completed by Redditor yetabix420 in one of the easiest ways possible. In the video, yetabix420 is fighting a ghast while standing in a Nether portal. Thanks to a perfectly timed bow shot, the adventurer teleports back to the Overworld at the same moment the arrow hits and kills the ghast. As a result of this amazingly coordinated assault on the Nether’s hostile mob, yetabix420 immediately completes the notorious Uneasy Alliance achievement. The challenge requires a ghast to be safely brought to the Overworld and only then killed. In reality, however, a player only needs to escape the Nether while a ghast simultaneously dies from a previously performed player attack. This strategy is not brand new for the Minecraft community, but the exact actions taken by yetabix420 might become a breakthrough for speedruns that previously relied on fishing rods and TNTs.

Speedrunning in Minecraft is a popular activity that often includes drama and controversy. For instance, well-known Minecraft YouTuber Dream was caught cheating while trying to beat the game at a record-breaking pace. It took the streamer just 19 minutes to complete their playthrough, which earned them the fifth-place position on a global speedrun leaderboard. However, as it was investigated by members of the community later, Dream had unintentionally cheated by using a mod that greatly increased the drop rate of items required to reach Minecraft’s End realm.

It’s quite remarkable that a decade-old video game like Minecraft is still able to surprise seasoned players with undiscovered tactics. It’s safe to say that, as an open-ended, open-world sandbox, Minecraft will offer numerous tricks to amaze the community and give them new ways to enjoy it. While yetabix420's method for earning the Uneasy Alliance achievement won't be available in every situation due to its reliance on perfect timing, this trick and others like it help players continuously discover new tactics and keep Minecraft feeling fresh years after its release.
