On May 17, 2009, Mojang changed the world of gaming with the first edition of Minecraft. This indie game has remained one of the most played titles in the world for the last 13 years by kids and adults alike. While the game has remained consistent with its purpose of letting your imagination roam, the game has had some drastic changes in recent years.

With Minecraft: Story Mode and Minecraft: Dungeons making their mark on their own, it should have been clear that this property wasn't going to stay vanilla forever. Regardless, whether you are a new player or a Minecraft veteran, these are some memes that any fan can understand.

Minecraft Veterans Being the Meme

It's no secret veterans of a popular, long running game have a certain sense of entitlement with them. It's almost as if they believe they enter every game with a V.I.P. badge around their neck. The base game of Minecraft has brought in a whole new generation of gamers and still continues to do so today.

Right off the bat, it should be said that being entitled about "the good old days of Minecraft" makes veteran players look like jerks. With new updates constantly being added to the game and two popular spin-off Minecraft titles, it is clear Minecraft is better for the newbies than it's ever been. In conclusion, stop being those guys that don't accept that things have changed for the best.

Finding Diamonds

There is no greater feeling than spending hours mining through a cave and finding diamonds for the first time. Every Minecraft player knows this feeling. Screaming to your friends that you finally found diamonds and listening to the disappointment and jealousy in their voices.

As every Minecraft player knows, this feeling never changes no matter how much of a Minecraft veteran you are. The excitement of finding diamonds continues to be one of the most exhilarating moments in gaming from the first to the last time you do it.

Becoming a Franchise

If there's anything a veteran Minecraft player loves, it's talking about the old Minecraft. The one they played after school every day with their buddies, and how great it was to build something out of nothing, or find diamonds where nobody mined yet.

One day these players woke up and saw a Minecraft: Story Mode announcement on YouTube, or maybe they went to Target and saw a Creeper hoodie on the rack, or even LEGO sets with the Minecraft characters. Suddenly, what once was a little indie game is now a multi-million dollar franchise with no sign of slowing down, and they hate that.

Forgetting to Hunt for Food

There is nothing worse than this unfortunate circumstance that every Minecraft player has faced. Picture being deep down in a cave with diamonds, iron, new armor, and new weapons. The only issue is you're starving to death. You check your inventory for a bread loaf at least, and all you can find is that treasure you're about to lose.

This is a common occurrence among most players. They get so excited about the diamonds and the armor that they forget that a creeper explosion isn't the only thing that can harm them in those caves. Before they can even think about the mistake they've made, the player starves to death and loses it all (including the keyboard they just smashed out of rage).

Planning Out the Perfect Build

Sometimes players go into a new world with a new goal in mind entirely. Instead of a typical Survival Mode, some get inspired by all the crafts that people make in Creative Mode. Some players forget the popular "Hunger Games" mode that has become a mainstay in recent years was made by a player using Creative Mode.

Everybody sees something like this, or even a sculpture of their favorite character in popular culture and gets inspired to build something amazing that their friends will watch in awe. The only problem is they think this is an easy task, and they're not an artist. Their Homer Simpson statue looks more like "The Tracy Ullman Show" than anything.

Using Dirt Blocks To Find Your House

One of the most fun things about Minecraft is creating a new world for a solo Survival game. Getting all the necessary supplies, food and building your own home for a fresh start. At some point, you start mining a cave, fine some iron and diamonds, craft some armor and come back out to put your loot in the chest in your bedroom. There's only one thing that can ruin it.

With all the mining and walking, at some point, you lose your house in the distance. Day turns to night, and everything looks the same so you're stuck trying to find it like the hilarious Mr. Krabs in this meme. Every Minecraft player knows the only true solution to this is digging dirt blocks to make a dirt watchtower. This still seems to be the go-to solution to this problem even today, unless the player wants to waste time and supplies on a new house. It is safe to say every player has felt the thrill of finally finding that home from a dirt tower.

Unexpected Creepers

An inventory full of diamonds, iron, cooked meat, and even a fresh set of armor and weapons equipped. Every player knows the feeling of finally getting themselves set up and ready to move forward in a new world. It's a feeling of satisfaction and pride like no other. Then, out of the blue, you hear a sound no Minecraft player wants to hear.

Creepers are probably the most infuriating thing in Minecraft even today. Every player dreads that sound when it sneaks up on them, not to mention if it sneaks up on you at your home base. With so many things changing in Minecraft, it would stand to reason that Mojang would nerf the creepers a bit. One can only hope that day will come soon.

Creeper Origin Story

Going back to the cultural impact of creepers, it used to be common knowledge how the unique character model came to fruition. Veteran Minecraft players remember the now iconic piece of history for the character, but newer players don't seem to know how the unique character model was born.

The story goes that when designing the pigs in the game, Notch accidentally made the height value and length value of an average pig sprite. This resulted in a pig with feet in the front and back, a long torso, and no arms. Notch thought this was an interesting sprite and designed the creepers from there. It's a common fact for older players, but it is surprising new players don't know about it.

New Load Times

At one point in time, you could go on your PC or Console, boot up Minecraft and instantly load a new world. One reason everybody got into Minecraft in the first place is you could boot up the game on any console, PC and even a smartphone instantly no matter what kind of specs the device has.

As time went on and Minecraft started to ingrain itself in popular culture, new updates would release consistently adding on to the base game. These updates made graphics crisper, added new animals and items, and even new easter eggs players can do to enhance their experience. While this is an improvement, the game has become more and more difficult to boot up, making veteran Minecraft players nostalgic for the good old days.

Herobrine

At the height of the popularity of video game creepypastas, a rumor started to circulate about a mysterious sprite a player could potentially find in their world. The sprite acted as a player and had the default Minecraft skin (most commonly known as Steve) with one distinct difference. This sprite had white eyes, and had the name "Herobrine" above it, displayed as it would be with an actual player. The sprite allegedly followed the player around even if they booted up a new world and would build very specific constructs within the world.

Needless to say, this creepypasta was completely bogus but did spark up conversation within the Minecraft community. Since then, it has become kind of a joke, with Mojang even releasing a wearable Herobrine skin into the game. New Minecraft players don't understand the suspense of first finding out about this mysterious sprite and the slight fear of playing the game alone that came with it.
